Faire Product Photo Requirements: Size, Hero Image and Shot List

Faire product photo requirements, in short: photos should be square, at least 500×500 px (Faire suggests about 1050×1050 or larger), JPEG or PNG. The first (hero) image works best on a white or light background with the product centered and filling the tile, with no text, logos or watermarks. Apparel is the exception: use 3:4 portrait images, ideally 1800×2400 px.

More on this topic: Marketplace image requirements, every guide in one place.

Faire is a wholesale marketplace, so your photos are being judged by shop owners scrolling a grid of square tiles, deciding what to stock. This guide sums up Faire's image guidance (checked October 2026), the shots retailers look for, and how to make a consistent set from your own photos with AI product photos.

The short version
  • Shape: square 1:1 for most products; 3:4 portrait for apparel.
  • Size: 500×500 px minimum, about 1050×1050 px recommended; bigger is fine.
  • Hero image: white or light background, product zoomed in and centered, no text, watermark, logo, collage or padded margins.
  • More than one image: Faire reports about twice the order volume for products with two or more images.
  • Lifestyle shots belong in the gallery after the hero.

Faire's product image guidance were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.

When you upload products in bulk, the order of images sets which one becomes the hero, so put your white-background shot first. If your photos are portrait phone shots, the free square image maker pads them to 1:1 without cutting the product, and our 1:1 aspect ratio guide lists the square sizes other channels use.

What makes a good Faire hero image?

The hero is the tile retailers see in search, category pages and your brand page. They compare dozens of brands in seconds, so a clean, consistent hero across your whole line makes your brand look ready to stock.

  • One product, centered, large in the frame. Faire specifically warns against padded margins that leave the product small.
  • White or light, plain background. Dark and busy backgrounds look muddy at tile size.
  • The same crop and fill on every product, so your line reads as a collection.
  • No added text or logos. Wholesale price, minimums and your brand name already show on the page.

Make square hero images from your own photos: your real product on pure white, centered and filling the frame, the same on every product.

Which other photos do retailers want to see?

A shop owner is asking different questions from a consumer: how will this look on my shelf, and will my customers buy it? Faire's blog advises at least four images or videos per product. Cover these:

ShotWhy retailers care
Hero on whiteClean tile in the grid
Lifestyle or in useShows the end customer and the mood of your brand
Scale (in hand or next to an object)Helps judge shelf space and price point
PackagingRetail-ready packaging matters for display
Detail or material close-upShows quality without a sample
Range or color overviewHelps them order a full assortment
Merchandised display (optional)Shows how a set looks together on a shelf or table
Wholesale buyers notice packaging

Consumer marketplaces often hide packaging. On Faire, a clear photo of the retail packaging answers a buyer's question about whether the item is ready to put on a shelf.

How do I make Faire photos from my existing images?

  1. Start from your sharpest originals. If they're small, the AI upscaler enlarges sharp photos 4× to clear Faire's recommended size.
  2. Cut out the whole line at once with the bulk background remover: up to 50 photos per batch on white, transparent or a brand color.
  3. Make square heroes with the product filling the frame. The white background tool outputs 2000×2000 squares with the product at about 85% fill.
  4. Square up other photos with the free square image maker, or crop apparel to 3:4 with the free image cropper.
  5. Add lifestyle scenes with the AI background generator: the product stays as photographed and only the setting is created.
  6. Upload with the hero first, then lifestyle, scale, packaging and details.

Faire photo checklist

  • Square (or 3:4 for apparel), 1050×1050 px or larger, JPEG or PNG.
  • Hero on white or light background, product large and centered.
  • No text, logos, watermarks or collages on the hero.
  • At least two images per product; four or more is better.
  • The same crop, light and background across your whole line.
  • Photos match what retailers will receive, including packaging and color.

Faire vs consumer marketplaces: what's different?

Most of your consumer-marketplace photos can be reused, with a few changes. Amazon wants pure white main images at about 85% fill (see Amazon product image requirements), Etsy shows landscape-cropped thumbnails (see Etsy listing photo size), and Shopify works best with one consistent ratio. Faire sits closest to Amazon for the hero (square, light background, large product) but rewards the context shots retailers use to picture the product in their shop: packaging, displays and sets. Keep one high-resolution master per shot and export a square version for Faire, rather than cropping an already-cropped Etsy image.

If you also sell wholesale outside Faire, the same set works for a line sheet or catalog. Our guide to making a product catalog covers layout and file formats.

Not strictly, but Faire's guidance says white or light backgrounds work best for the hero image and advises against dark or cluttered ones. Put lifestyle shots in the gallery.

Use at least two, and aim for four or more images or videos, as Faire's own advice suggests. Other marketplaces' limits are compared in how many product photos per listing.
