Google Business Profile photo size, in short: upload JPG or PNG files between 10 KB and 5 MB. Google recommends 720×720 pixels and accepts a minimum of 250×250. The same rules cover your logo, cover photo and product photos; Google publishes no separate cover or logo size. Videos can be up to 30 seconds, 75 MB and 720p or higher.

Your Business Profile is what people see when they search your shop's name or find you on Google Maps, and photos are most of it. Google's rules are short, but a few of them catch sellers out: photos that are too large, a cover photo Google decides not to show first, and edited images that get marked “Not approved”. This guide lists Google's official numbers, says plainly where Google doesn't give one, and covers which photos to add for a shop that sells products.
- Format: JPG or PNG.
- File size: between 10 KB and 5 MB.
- Resolution: 720×720 px recommended, 250×250 px minimum.
- Video: up to 30 seconds, up to 75 MB, 720p or higher.
- Realism: Google asks for photos in focus, well lit, and without significant alterations or excessive use of filters or AI.
- Review: new photos can take 24–48 hours to appear, and only once the profile is verified.
What size should Google Business Profile photos be?
Google recommends 720 pixels tall by 720 pixels wide, with a minimum of 250×250 pixels. Files must be JPG or PNG and between 10 KB and 5 MB. Google gives these as the requirements for all Business Profile photos, so they apply to your logo, cover photo and business photos alike.
| Requirement | Google's number | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Format | JPG or PNG | Convert HEIC or WebP first |
| File size | 10 KB to 5 MB | Files outside this range don't meet the requirement |
| Recommended resolution | 720×720 px | Larger files are fine within 5 MB |
| Minimum resolution | 250×250 px | Expect soft photos near the minimum |
| Quality | In focus, well lit | No significant alterations or excessive filters |
| Video length | Up to 30 seconds | |
| Video file size | Up to 75 MB | |
| Video resolution | 720p or higher |
Google's Business Profile photo and video requirements (support.google.com/business/answer/6103862) and photo tips (support.google.com/business/answer/6123536) were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.
720×720 is a recommendation, not a limit. A phone photo of 3000 or 4000 pixels is accepted as long as the file stays under 5 MB, and it will look sharper when someone opens it full screen. If a photo is over the limit, the free image compressor brings it down in your browser. iPhone photos saved as HEIC need converting with the HEIC to JPG converter first.
What size is a Google Business Profile logo?
Google doesn't publish a separate logo size; the logo follows the same rules as other photos (JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB, at least 250×250, 720×720 recommended). In practice, upload a square logo, because Google shows it in small square or round crops on Search and Maps.
- Make it square with some padding around the mark, so a round crop doesn't clip the edges. The free square image maker pads a wide logo to a square.
- Use a solid background. Transparent PNGs can show on an unexpected color; a white or brand-colored square is predictable.
- Fill in your basic information. Google says the logo is highlighted for businesses that have their basic information, such as hours or a phone number. If your logo isn't showing, check that the name, address, categories, phone number and opening hours are complete.
For a favicon or other small square versions of the same logo, see how to make a favicon.
What size is a Google Business Profile cover photo?
Google doesn't publish a cover photo size either; it falls under the same 720×720 recommended, 250×250 minimum rule. The cover is usually displayed in a wide crop, so widely followed practice is a landscape 16:9 image (for example 1920×1080) with the subject in the center.
Two things Google does say about the cover photo are worth knowing:
- It isn't guaranteed to show first. Google's help page says setting a cover photo doesn't always make it the first image people see. Google may pick another photo it thinks fits the search.
- So every photo should work as a first impression. Don't rely on the cover alone; make your exterior, product and interior photos strong enough to lead.
Shoot or edit a landscape photo with the storefront, counter or hero product in the middle third and plain surroundings at the edges. Then it reads well as a wide banner, a square thumbnail or a full-screen photo. The free image cropper lets you test 16:9, 4:3 and 1:1 crops of the same file.
Which photos should a product seller add to Google Business Profile?
Google's tips suggest at least three photos in each relevant category. For a shop or maker that sells products, these are the categories that apply:
| Photo type | Google's suggestion | What to shoot |
|---|---|---|
| Exterior | At least 3 | Storefront from the street, the entrance, signage, at different times of day |
| Interior | At least 3 | Shelves, displays, the counter, how the shop feels inside |
| Products | At least 3 | Your most popular items, clearly lit |
| Team | At least 3 | Owners and staff, at work |
| At work | At least 3 | Services you offer, such as engraving, repairs or fittings |
| Common areas | At least 1 each | Fitting rooms, a workshop corner, parking |
Product photos on your profile don't need white backgrounds; they need to look like what a customer will find when they walk in. A product on your own shelf or counter is ideal. Our phone product photography guide covers light and angles.
Can you use edited or AI images on Google Business Profile?
Be careful. Google's photo tips ask for photos with no significant alterations or excessive use of filters or AI, so the image represents reality. Photos that break Google's policies are marked “Not approved” and don't appear on Search or Maps.
What that means for sellers:
- Generally fine: cropping, straightening, fixing exposure and white balance, gentle sharpening and compressing. These make a real photo clearer without changing what it shows.
- Risky: heavy filters, replacing the background of your storefront, adding products you don't stock, or AI-generated scenes of a shop that doesn't look like that.
- Keep the generated scenes for your website and ads, where styled product imagery is normal, and use real photos on your Business Profile.
If a real photo is a little soft, sharpening or upscaling improves detail without inventing a new scene. Check the result still looks like the original.
Sharpen or upscale a real photo of your shop or product so it holds up full screen on Google Maps, without changing what it shows.

Google's help pages for posts and the product editor don't give separate image sizes, so the general photo requirements are the ones to follow: JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB, 720×720 recommended. Posts can include photos or videos, and Google archives posts older than six months unless you set a date range.
| Where | Official image size | What to upload |
|---|---|---|
| Posts (updates, offers, events) | Not published separately | 720×720 or larger, JPG, under 5 MB |
| Product editor | Not published separately | Square product photo, JPG, under 5 MB |
| Logo | Not published separately | Square, padded, solid background |
| Cover photo | Not published separately | Landscape, subject centered |
| Business photos | 720×720 recommended, 250×250 minimum | Real, well lit, in focus |
Because posts and products are shown in different crops on phones and desktops, a square image with the product centered is the safest choice; the free image resizer can pad a photo to a square without cutting off the product. Products added through the product editor must also follow Google's Shopping ads policy; Google says violations can remove all the products you uploaded. If you sell online too, the Google Shopping image requirements apply to your Merchant Center product images.
Why are my Google Business Profile photos not showing?
Most often they're still in review. Google says photos and videos can take 24–48 hours to show, and they only appear once your Business Profile is verified. You'll see a status of Pending, Not approved or Live for each upload.
- Check the profile is verified.
- Wait 48 hours after uploading, then check each photo's status.
- If a photo is Not approved, look for heavy edits, filters, text overlays or anything that doesn't represent the business, and upload a cleaner original.
- Check the file is JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB and at least 250×250.
- Remove location metadata from photos taken at home if you'd rather not share it; the free metadata remover does that in your browser.
