With a target size, the tool picks the highest quality that fits, and only shrinks the image if even the lowest quality is too big. Target sizes work with JPG and WebP. PNG is lossless, so the quality slider doesn't apply to it. Images are only made smaller, never enlarged. Saving a new copy also drops the photo's EXIF data, such as camera details and location.

FAQ

Questions about image compressor

Is the image compressor free?
Yes. It's free with no sign-up, no credits and no watermark.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser. Your photos never leave your device.
Can it open iPhone HEIC photos?
Yes. When you add a HEIC or HEIF file, the page loads a converter that runs in your browser and turns it into a format it can compress.
Which format should I pick?
WebP usually gives the smallest files and works on most store platforms and browsers. Use JPG where WebP isn't accepted, such as Amazon listings. PNG is lossless, so it keeps every pixel but the files are larger.
Why did a file get bigger?
Some files are already well compressed, and PNG output is often larger than a JPG input. The tool shows the change for each file so you can keep the original when it's smaller.
