How to Convert WebP to JPG (2026): Windows, Mac, Phone and Free Online

How to convert WebP to JPG: on Windows 11, open the file in Paint and choose File > Save as > JPEG picture. On a Mac, open it in Preview, choose File > Export and pick JPEG at about 85% quality. For up to 20 files at once, use our free WebP to JPG converter in your browser. Don't just rename .webp to .jpg.

WebP is Google's image format for the web. It makes files around 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality, so most websites now serve it, and when you save an image from a browser you often end up with a .webp file. Many marketplaces, desktop apps, print services and upload forms still expect JPG. This guide covers the free ways to convert WebP to JPG on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android, how to batch convert, and when it's better to keep WebP.

The short version
  • Windows 11: Paint opens WebP; File > Save as > JPEG picture. One file at a time.
  • Mac: Preview > File > Export > JPEG. Open several files and use Export Selected Images for a batch, or Finder's Convert Image Quick Action.
  • Any device: our free image compressor converts up to 20 WebP files to JPG in the browser, without uploading them.
  • Don't rename: changing the extension leaves WebP data inside, and many apps will refuse to open it.
  • Keep WebP for your own website; convert to JPG for Amazon, Etsy, print and forms.

Why do images save as WebP?

Because the website served a WebP file to make the page load faster. Many sites and image CDNs automatically deliver WebP to browsers that support it, even when the image was uploaded as a JPG. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all display WebP, so you only notice when you try to use the file somewhere else. If you're saving your own product images from your store, it's better to go back to the original file than to convert a web-optimized copy, which may be smaller and more compressed.

Where is WebP accepted, and where do you need JPG?

Marketplaces are the main reason sellers need to convert WebP to JPG.

Where the image goesWebP accepted?Use
Amazon listingsNo (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIF)JPG
Etsy listingsNot listed (JPG, PNG, GIF)JPG
eBay listingsYes, per eBay's help pagesJPG is still safest
ShopifyYesJPG or PNG upload; Shopify serves WebP itself
Your own websiteYes, all modern browsersWebP is ideal
Print shops, older software, many formsOften noJPG

Marketplace file format lists were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.

How to convert WebP to JPG on Windows 11

Paint opens WebP on an up-to-date Windows 11 PC and saves it as JPG in a few clicks.

  1. Right-click the WebP file and choose Open with > Paint.
  2. Choose File > Save as > JPEG picture.
  3. Pick a folder and name, then click Save.

The Photos app works the same way: open the image, click the three-dot menu, choose Save as and set the type to JPG. If Paint can't open WebP, run Windows Update; older builds lacked support. Neither app converts a batch. For a folder of files, use the browser method below or a free desktop tool such as IrfanView, XnConvert or GIMP.

Transparent WebP files

WebP can have a transparent background; JPG can't. When you convert, the transparent area is filled, usually with white, sometimes with black. If you need the cutout, convert to PNG instead of JPG.

How to convert WebP to JPG on a Mac

Preview has opened WebP since macOS Big Sur, and exports it to JPG with a quality slider.

  1. Double-click the WebP file to open it in Preview.
  2. Choose File > Export.
  3. Set Format to JPEG and the quality slider to about 80–90%.
  4. Click Save.

For several files, select them all in Finder, open them together in Preview, select every thumbnail in the sidebar (Cmd + A) and choose File > Export Selected Images. Alternatively, right-click the selection in Finder and choose Quick Actions > Convert Image, then pick JPEG and Actual Size. Test one file first; if Convert Image doesn't accept WebP on your macOS version, Preview will.

How to convert WebP to JPG on iPhone and Android

On iPhone, save the image to Files and use the Convert Image action; on Android, a browser converter is simplest.

  • iPhone and iPad: save the image to the Files app, press and hold it, choose Quick Actions > Convert Image > JPEG and pick Original size. Select several files first to convert a batch.
  • Android: there's no universal built-in converter, and gallery apps differ by maker. Open a browser converter, pick the files from your gallery and download JPGs.

How to convert WebP to JPG online, free

A browser converter works on any device and handles a batch at once.

  1. Open our free image compressor and converter. No sign-up.
  2. Drop in up to 20 WebP files (JPG, PNG and HEIC work too).
  3. Choose JPG as the output and leave quality at 80, or raise it for detailed product shots.
  4. Optionally set a max size, such as 2000 px on the longest side.
  5. Download the files one by one or as a ZIP.

It converts on your device, so nothing is uploaded, and transparent areas become white in the JPG. Many other online converters upload your files to a server; that's fine for public images, but check the privacy policy for anything personal.

Can you save a WebP image as JPG directly from the browser?

Not reliably. Chrome, Edge and Safari save the file in the format the site sent, so a WebP image saves as WebP. Taking a screenshot gives you a PNG or JPG, but at screen resolution, which is often smaller than the real image. Save the WebP, then convert it.

When should you keep WebP instead?

Keep WebP whenever the image is going on a website you control. WebP files load faster, support transparency, and every current browser shows them. Converting a WebP to JPG makes the file bigger without adding detail, and if you convert again later you lose a little quality each time.

  • Keep WebP: your own site's images, blog photos, web galleries, andtransparent graphics on the web.
  • Convert to JPG: marketplace listings, print orders, email attachments for people on older software, and upload forms that reject WebP.
  • Convert to PNG: anything with a transparent background, such as a logo or product cutout.
  • On Shopify: upload JPG or PNG; Shopify already serves optimized WebP or AVIF to shoppers.

Does converting WebP to JPG lose quality?

Slightly. Both formats are usually lossy, so converting re-compresses the image. At JPG quality 80–90 the difference isn't visible, but the JPG will usually be larger than the WebP. Convert once, keep the WebP original, and don't convert back and forth. If the JPG ends up too big for an upload limit, see how to reduce image file size; if it looks soft after a small web copy was converted, an upscaler can help, as covered in how to make a picture higher resolution.

Checklist before uploading converted images

  1. The file really is a JPG (open it in Paint or Preview and check the file info), not a renamed WebP.
  2. Transparent areas filled with the color you wanted, or the file saved as PNG instead.
  3. Pixel size meets the marketplace minimum; use the free marketplace image resizer to hit exact sizes.
  4. File size under the upload limit.
  5. You own the image or have permission to use it. A saved web image is still someone's work.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert WebP to JPG on Windows?

Right-click the WebP file, choose Open with > Paint, then File > Save as > JPEG picture. The Photos app's Save as option also works. For many files, use a batch tool or a browser converter.

How do I convert WebP to JPG on a Mac?

Open the file in Preview, choose File > Export, set the format to JPEG and click Save. To convert several, open them together and use File > Export Selected Images.

Why do my downloaded images save as WebP?

The website served a WebP version because it's smaller and loads faster. Browsers save the file in the format the site delivered, so you need to convert it if an app or marketplace wants JPG.

Can I just rename a .webp file to .jpg?

No. Renaming changes only the label; the data inside is still WebP. Some apps will open it anyway, but many uploads and programs will reject it or show an error. Convert it properly instead.

Is WebP better than JPG?

For websites, usually yes: files are around 25 to 35 percent smaller at similar quality and support transparency. For marketplaces, print and sharing with older software, JPG is safer because it's accepted everywhere.

Does Amazon accept WebP images?

No. Amazon accepts JPEG, PNG, TIFF and non-animated GIF and recommends JPEG. Convert WebP files to JPG before uploading them to a listing.
