FAQ

Questions about barcode generator

Is the barcode generator free?
Yes. It's free with no sign-up, no credits and no watermark.
Are my numbers sent anywhere?
No. The barcodes are drawn in your browser. The numbers you type never leave your device.
Does this give me a UPC or EAN for Amazon?
No. This tool draws a barcode for a number you already have. It doesn't issue or register numbers. Amazon and most retailers check product IDs against the GS1 database, so you need UPC or EAN numbers licensed to your brand by GS1, or an exemption from Amazon. A made-up or resold number can get listings removed.
What is a check digit?
The last digit of a UPC, EAN or ITF-14 is calculated from the others so scanners can catch misreads. Enter the number without it and the tool adds it. Enter the full number and the tool checks it and shows the right digit if yours is wrong.
Which format should I use?
UPC-A (12 digits) is standard in the US and Canada. EAN-13 (13 digits) is used in most other countries. EAN-8 is for very small packages. ITF-14 goes on outer shipping cartons. Code 128 encodes letters and numbers, so it suits SKUs, bin labels and internal stock codes.
PNG or SVG?
SVG is a vector file, so it stays sharp at any size in design and label software. PNG works everywhere and downloads at 4× the preview size so it prints cleanly.
Will my barcode scan?
The bars follow each format's encoding rules. Print it at a size your printer can reproduce cleanly, keep the white margin around it, and test it with a scanner or phone before a large print run.
