Save as

With a target size, the tool picks the highest quality that fits, and only shrinks the image if even the lowest quality is too big. Target sizes work with JPG and WebP. PNG is lossless, so the quality slider doesn't apply to it. Images are only made smaller, never enlarged. Saving a new copy also drops the photo's EXIF data, such as camera details and location.

FAQ

Questions about avif to jpg

Is the AVIF to JPG converter free?
Yes. It's free with no sign-up, no credits and no watermark.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser. Your photos never leave your device.
What is an AVIF file?
AVIF is a newer image format based on the AV1 video codec. Websites use it because files are small, so images you save from a web page are often AVIF. Many marketplaces, editing apps and older devices can't open it yet.
Which browsers can convert AVIF?
The tool uses your browser to read the AVIF file, so you need one that supports it: recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (16.4 or later) do. If your browser can't open the file, the tool tells you.
Why is the JPG bigger than the AVIF?
AVIF compresses much harder than JPG, so the JPG copy is usually several times larger. That's normal: the point is a file every site accepts. Lower the quality or set a max size to shrink it.
Does it keep the photo's metadata?
No. Saving a new copy drops EXIF data such as camera details and GPS location.
