How many product photos per listing, in short: aim for at least six, and fill most of the slots your marketplace allows when you have useful shots. Amazon recommends at least six images, Walmart at least four, and TikTok Shop rates listings with five or more images higher. Etsy allows 20 photos, eBay 24, Vinted 20, Poshmark 16, Mercari 12 and Facebook Marketplace 10. Each photo should answer a different question.
More on this topic: Product photography, every guide in one place.
The number matters less than coverage: a main image, then angles, details, scale, the product in use and what's in the box. This guide gives the limits and recommendations for each platform (checked October 2026), a shot list that fills them without repeats, and how to make the extra images from the photos you already have with AI product photos.
- Minimum worth aiming for: 6 images, with a short video where the platform takes one.
- Every photo needs a job: no near-duplicates of the same angle.
- Order matters: main image first, then the shots that answer the biggest doubts (size, details, use).
- Platforms reward more images: Faire reports about twice the orders for products with two or more images, and TikTok Shop's listing quality tiers ask for five or more.
- Same rules for every image: show the product you ship, at the platform's size.
How many photos can I upload on each platform?
| Platform | Maximum | Recommended or required |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon | Up to 9 images in most categories, plus video | At least 6 images (Amazon's own advice); main image on pure white |
| Etsy | Up to 20 photos, plus video | Use the slots: multiple images can raise conversion, per Etsy's Seller Handbook |
| eBay | Up to 24 photos, free in most categories | At least 1 required; eBay's advice is that more is better. 12 per variation on multi-variation listings |
| Shopify | Up to 250 media items per product (images, video, 3D) | One image per variant |
| Walmart Marketplace (US) | Check your category | At least 4 images recommended |
| TikTok Shop (US) | Up to 9 square images | 5 or more for a "Good" listing quality rating |
| Google Merchant Center | 1 main + up to 10 additional | Around 1500×1500 px or larger |
| Faire | Check the uploader | At least 2; Faire reports about 2× order volume vs one image |
Image limits and recommendations for each platform were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.
How many pictures can you upload on Vinted, Poshmark, Depop and other resale apps?
Vinted allows up to 20 photos per listing, Poshmark 16, Mercari and OfferUp 12, Facebook Marketplace and Wallapop 10, and Depop 4 in the app or 8 on Depop.com. Resale buyers check condition closely, so use most of the slots for labels, measurements and every flaw.
| Resale app | Maximum photos per listing | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Vinted | 20 | Your own photos only; whole item first, no collage. Vinted photo tips |
| Poshmark | 16 | Shown in 3:4 portrait since March 2026. Poshmark photo tips |
| Mercari | 12 | First photo is the cover in search. Mercari photo tips |

Which product photos should I include?
Build the set from buyer questions, in this order. Seven shots cover most products; add more for complex or expensive items.
| # | Shot | The question it answers |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Main image: the product alone on white or a plain background | What is it? |
| 2 | Second angle (back, side or three-quarter) | What does the rest look like? |
| 3 | Close-up of material, texture or finish | Is it good quality? |
| 4 | Scale: in hand, worn, or next to a familiar object | How big is it? |
| 5 | In use or in a lifestyle scene | Will it suit me or my space? |
| 6 | What's in the box, or the product with its packaging | What exactly do I get? |
| 7 | Key details: ports, pockets, closures, labels | Does it have what I need? |
| 8+ | Variants, dimensions graphic (where allowed), care or use steps | Remaining doubts |
Read your product's reviews and customer questions, yours or a competitor's. Every repeated question ("is it heavy?", "does the lid seal?") is a photo you're missing.
Turn one product photo into a white main image, lifestyle scenes and every channel size, so you can fill more slots without a reshoot.

Platforms say yes, up to the point where images stop adding information. Faire reports that products with two or more images get about twice the order volume of products with one. Amazon recommends at least six images, and TikTok Shop's listing quality tiers ask for five or more. Etsy's Seller Handbook says multiple images may increase conversion. None of them claim that a twentieth photo of the same angle helps, and filler images make a listing harder to scan.
Many shoppers only swipe through the first few images on mobile. Put the shots that answer the biggest doubts, usually scale and detail, in slots 2 and 3 rather than at the end.
How do I make extra product photos without a new photoshoot?
- Lifestyle scenes from one photo: cut the product out and place it on marble, wood, a shelf or a scene you describe with the AI background generator. Your real product stays as photographed.
- Channel versions: the same shot at square, 4:5 and 9:16 for marketplaces, social and ads, with the free marketplace image resizer.
- Bundle or variant overview: combine several photos into one with the free product collage maker for a secondary slot (not the main image).
- Video: turn a photo into a 5-second clip with image to video, for platforms with a video slot.
What AI can't make is a photo of something you haven't shown it: the back, the inside, the packaging. Shoot those once on your phone, then edit them into the same look.
A quick photo plan per listing
- List the buyer questions from reviews, Q&A and returns.
- Shoot the real product: front, back or side, one detail, one scale shot, the contents.
- Make the main image on white and two lifestyle scenes from your best shot.
- Export each image at the platform's size and order them by importance.
- Add a short video where the platform has a slot.
- Recheck once a quarter: replace any image that no longer matches the product or packaging.
What order should product photos go in?
The first image is fixed by the rules (the main image), but the rest is yours to plan. A good default order, adjusted by platform:
| Platform | Slot 1 | Slots 2 to 4 | Later slots |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon | Pure white main image | Scale, key feature, lifestyle | Details, contents, infographics where allowed |
| Etsy | Clearest shot, often a styled photo; search shows it cropped to roughly 4:3 | Scale, detail, in use | Variations, packaging, care |
| eBay | Clean front view | Back, sides, labels, model number | Flaws (for used items), accessories, packaging |
| Shopify | Same style as the rest of your collection grid | Lifestyle, scale, detail | Variants, video |
| TikTok Shop | Square main image on pure white | Angles, scale | Use and details |
For used items on eBay, the photos that show wear and flaws protect you from returns and disputes; put them in the set rather than leaving them out.
Common photo-count mistakes
- Five copies of one angle with slightly different crops. It fills slots but answers nothing new.
- All lifestyle, no detail. Pretty, but shoppers still can't see the clasp, the port or the stitching.
- Variant photos only in the gallery. Link each color's image to its variant so the photo changes when the shopper picks it.
- Text-heavy images on platforms that limit them, such as main images on Amazon, Google Shopping and TikTok Shop.
- Old photos after a packaging change, which lead to "not as pictured" returns.
Frequently asked questions
How many photos should a product listing have?
At least six is a good target, and more on platforms with room for them, as long as each photo shows something new. Amazon recommends at least six, Walmart at least four, and TikTok Shop rates five or more as good.
How many photos can you put on an Etsy listing?
Up to 20 photos, plus video. The first photo is the thumbnail in search, so make it your clearest shot.
How many photos can you add on eBay?
Up to 24 photos for free in most categories. Multi-variation listings allow 12 per variation.
How many pictures does Vinted allow?
Vinted allows up to 20 photos per listing. Six to ten is enough for most clothing: the whole item first, then the back, labels, care tag, close-ups of the fabric and every flaw.
How many photos can you post on Poshmark?
Up to 16 photos per listing; the first is the cover shot. Poshmark shows listing photos in a 3:4 portrait shape, so shoot upright with a small margin around the item.
How many images does Amazon allow?
Up to 9 images in most categories, plus video. Amazon recommends at least six images, with the main image on pure white.
Is one great photo enough?
Rarely. Shoppers want scale, details and context before they buy. Faire reports about twice the orders for products with two or more images compared with one.
