Poshmark photo tips, in short: you can upload up to 16 photos per listing, and the first is your cover shot. Since March 2026 Poshmark shows listing photos in portrait (3:4), so shoot upright with the whole item centered and a small margin. Use bright, even light and a clean background, and photograph every flaw, because buyers can report undisclosed damage after delivery.

Poshmark buyers browse closets and feeds of cover shots, then open a listing to check brand, size and condition. The cover gets the tap; the other 15 photos close the sale. This guide covers Poshmark's photo limit, the switch from square to portrait, what the cover shot should look like, the shots to take for each type of item, and how photos protect you when a buyer opens a return case.
- Up to 16 photos per listing. Use most of them for used, branded or luxury items.
- Portrait 3:4, not square. Poshmark switched cover photos from 1:1 to 3:4 in March 2026. Your phone already shoots 3:4.
- Cover shot: the whole item, centered, on a clean background, in bright even light.
- Older square photos are fine. Poshmark keeps the originals; updating covers is optional.
- Show every flaw. Buyers have 72 hours after delivery to report undisclosed damage or an item not as described.
How many photos can you upload on Poshmark?
Poshmark allows up to 16 photos per listing. Its "How do I list an item?" guide gives that maximum, and you can upload several photos at once, in the app or by dragging them into the listing form on the web. You won't need 16 for a plain tee, but for shoes, bags and anything worn, the extra slots are where you prove condition.
| Item | Suggested photos | Must include |
|---|---|---|
| Tops and knitwear | 6–8 | Front, back, brand tag, size tag, fabric tag, any pilling |
| Jeans and trousers | 7–9 | Front, back, waist tag, inseam with tape, hems, knees |
| Dresses and coats | 8–10 | Full length, back, lining, zips and buttons, fabric close-up |
| Shoes and sneakers | 10–14 | Both sides, toe, heel, soles, insole size, box if included |
| Handbags | 10–16 | Front, back, base, corners, hardware, interior, tags, dust bag |
| Jewelry and accessories | 6–10 | On a plain surface, worn for scale, clasp, any stamp |
Poshmark's photo limit and portrait photo format were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.
What size should Poshmark photos be?
Shoot portrait at a 3:4 ratio. In March 2026 Poshmark announced that listing photos, including cover photos, now display in portrait (3:4) instead of square (1:1). Some phones label the same shape 4:3; Poshmark says it's the same format. Poshmark doesn't publish a minimum pixel size, but a photo straight from a modern phone camera is plenty.
- From a phone: the default camera already shoots 3:4, so no cropping is needed.
- On desktop: photos are framed as portrait automatically, with crop and zoom tools if you need them.
- Old square photos: no action needed. The feed frames them as portrait, which can trim the sides slightly, but shoppers who open the listing see the original.
- Avoid 16:9 or 9:16 screenshots; they lose more to the crop. To turn one into 3:4, type a custom size such as 1536×2048 into our free marketplace image resizer and pad it with white instead of cropping.
The rollout is gradual, so the app and desktop may look different for a while. If you read older guides that say Poshmark photos must be square, that was the format before March 2026.
What should the Poshmark cover shot be?
The cover shot should show the whole item, centered both ways, filling the frame with a small margin around the edges. It is the photo shoppers see in feeds, search and when your listing is shared. Poshmark's portrait-photo guide asks for bright, even lighting, a clean background, and the whole item visible, including hems, sleeves and straps.
- Pick one style: flat lay, hanger on a plain wall, dress form, or worn. Use it for every cover so your closet looks consistent.
- Shoot upright in your phone's natural portrait orientation.
- Center the item and leave a little space on all four sides.
- Light it evenly. A window to the side in daylight, no flash, ceiling lights off.
- Prep the item: steam, de-lint, button and zip it up.
- Check it small. Look at it at feed size; if you can't tell what it is, step back.
Long items like maxi dresses and wide-leg trousers benefit most from portrait. They now fill more of the frame than they did in a square.
What photos should you take for a Poshmark listing?
Take the cover, then every angle, every tag and every flaw. Poshmark's guide recommends combining full shots with close-ups of important details and keeping your angles consistent across photos.
- Cover: whole item, front.
- Back, in the same setup.
- Brand tag, size tag and fabric content tag, close and in focus.
- Measurements: a tape measure across the chest, waist, inseam or length.
- Details: buttons, zips, hardware, stitching, print or embroidery.
- Every flaw, each in its own photo, in good light, with enough of the item around it that buyers can see where it is.
- Fit: worn or on a dress form.
- Extras: original box, dust bag, receipt or authenticity card if you have them.

Give every cover shot in your closet the same clean background, keeping the item exactly as you shot it.
Clean up a cover shot7 days free · 50 credits · No credit cardCan you add a video to a Poshmark listing?
Yes, Poshmark has supported one short video per listing since 2021, which you can add when you list or edit an item. At launch the limit was reported as 15 seconds; Poshmark's current help pages don't state a length, so check what the app allows when you record. Use the video for what photos can't show: fit, drape, stretch and how a bag opens.
How do photos protect you on Poshmark?
Photos are the record of what you disclosed. Under Posh Protect, a buyer has 72 hours after delivery to open a return case, with supporting photos, for undisclosed damage, an incorrect or missing item, an item not as described, or an item that isn't authentic.
A stain, a hole or pilling that's clearly shown in your photos and mentioned in the description has been disclosed. The same flaw that only shows up when the buyer unpacks it is grounds for a return case. A ten-second flaw close-up is the cheapest protection you have.
What photos should you avoid on Poshmark?
Avoid anything that misrepresents the item you're shipping. Poshmark's listing guide doesn't publish a detailed photo rulebook, so these follow from Posh Protect and common sense:
- Stock or brand photos as your only images. They can't show condition, and a return case is judged against what the buyer receives.
- Filters that change color or smoothing that hides pilling and wear.
- Cluttered backgrounds that compete with the item in a small portrait tile.
- Personal details: mail with your address, documents, or reflections in mirrors. Photos can also carry GPS location in their metadata; our free photo metadata remover saves clean copies.
Common Poshmark photo mistakes
| Mistake | Why it hurts | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Cropping covers to a square | Wastes the taller portrait tile | Shoot and upload 3:4 |
| Item touching the edges | Hems or straps cut off in the feed | Center it with a small margin |
| Mixed backgrounds across the closet | Closet looks messy when shoppers browse | One spot, one backdrop |
| Yellow indoor light | Colors look wrong on arrival | Window daylight, no flash |
| Tags out of focus | Size and fabric questions in comments | Close-up, tap to focus |
| Flaws not photographed | Undisclosed-damage return cases | One clear photo per flaw |
Editing Poshmark photos without misleading buyers
Crop, straighten and brighten freely; leave the item itself alone. If you upload from a computer and your iPhone saved HEIC files, our free image compressor and converter turns them into JPGs. To make an existing closet consistent without reshooting, AiArter's product photo tools replace the background with white or a soft color and keep the item as photographed. Trial images carry a small "Made with aiarter" mark, so use paid-plan exports for listings.

Portrait, at a 3:4 ratio. Poshmark switched cover photos from square (1:1) to portrait (3:4) in March 2026. Poshmark doesn't publish a pixel minimum; photos straight from a phone camera work.
Do I need to redo my old square Poshmark photos?
No. Poshmark says listings with square photos need no action and the originals are kept. The feed frames them as portrait, so you can optionally update covers where the crop cuts something important.
Why are my Poshmark photos cropped?
The feed now frames every photo as a 3:4 portrait, so square or wide photos lose a little at the sides. Shoot upright with the item centered and a small margin.

A plain, light, uncluttered background such as a white wall or foam board, in bright even daylight. Use the same one for every cover so your closet looks consistent.
