eBay listing video requirements, in short: one video per listing, about one minute or less, MP4 or MOV (H.264), up to 150 MB, uploaded at up to 1080p. eBay plays it back at up to 720p in the listing's image gallery in the eBay app and mobile browser. Any seller can add one from a web browser; review takes up to 48 hours. Adding video is free.

A short clip of the item working, turning or being handled answers questions photos can't: does the watch tick, does the console power on, how does the fabric move. eBay's video feature is simple, but its limits sit in two places (the seller help page and the developer docs) and many guides still repeat older numbers. This guide sets out every official spec, where the video shows, what to film, how to upload it and how to prepare the file. For photos, see our eBay photo requirements. If you only have photos, AiArter's image-to-video tool can animate one into a short clip (with limits covered below).
- Count: one video per listing; you can reuse an uploaded video on other listings.
- Length: eBay recommends one minute or less.
- File: .mp4 or .mov (H.264), 150 MB maximum, up to 1080p.
- Playback: in the image gallery in the eBay app and mobile browser, at 240p to 720p.
- Upload: any seller from a web browser; in the app only from My eBay, not Seller Hub.
- Review: within 48 hours, up to 7 business days at peak times.
What are eBay's video requirements?
One MP4 or MOV video per listing, 150 MB or smaller, uploaded at up to 1080p and ideally one minute or shorter. Those numbers come from eBay's own help page and developer documentation, which we read in October 2026.
| Spec | eBay's requirement | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Videos per listing | 1 | eBay help: add a video to your listing |
| Length | About one minute; ideally one minute or less | eBay help |
| Maximum file size | 150 MB | eBay help and developer docs |
| File format | .mp4 or .mov, H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) | eBay help |
| Upload resolution | Up to 1080p | eBay help |
| Playback resolution | 240p, 360p, 480p and 720p | eBay help |
| Aspect ratio | Not stated by eBay | — |
| Custom thumbnail | Not supported | eBay developer docs |
| Cost | Free | eBay help |
| YouTube or other video links | Not supported | eBay help |
eBay's video limits were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.
eBay doesn't publish an aspect ratio. Because the video plays in the same gallery as your photos on phones, a square (1:1) or vertical (4:5) frame fills more of the screen than a wide 16:9 clip, but horizontal video is accepted.
Who can add a video to an eBay listing?
All sellers can upload a video when listing an item in a web browser, according to eBay. In the eBay app, only sellers using My eBay can add one; Seller Hub users need to use a browser for now.
eBay's developer documentation adds that listing video is supported on the US, UK and eBay Motors US sites. If you sell on another eBay site and don't see the option, that's the likely reason.
Search snippets of eBay's help page mention that video isn't supported on listings with variations, but we couldn't confirm it on the page itself. If the video option is missing on a multi-variation listing, that is probably why.
Where does the video show on eBay?
In the image gallery of the listing, in the eBay app and the mobile browser, according to eBay's help page. eBay's developer docs go further and say videos can only be viewed in the native iOS and Android apps. Neither source mentions desktop, so assume many desktop buyers won't see the video and keep everything essential in your photos and description.
| Where | Does the video play? |
|---|---|
| eBay app (iOS, Android) | Yes |
| Mobile browser | Yes, per eBay's help page (the developer docs say apps only) |
| Desktop browser | Not stated; don't rely on it |
| Search results | No; buyers see your first photo |
Your main photo still does the work in search results, so the video is a supporting asset, not a replacement for good photos.
How do you add a video to an eBay listing?
- Start a new listing, or revise an existing one, in a web browser.
- In the photos and video section, choose to add a video and upload your .mp4 or .mov file.
- Wait for the upload to finish; you can reuse the same video on other listings later.
- Publish the listing. The video goes into review.
- Check the listing in the eBay app after review (usually within 48 hours, up to 7 business days at peak times).
eBay's developer docs note that a video uploaded through the API expires after 30 days if it isn't attached to a listing, so upload close to when you list.
How should you prepare a video file for eBay?
Export an H.264 MP4 at 1080p or 720p, keep it under a minute, and keep the file well under 150 MB. A one-minute 1080p phone clip at normal quality is usually far below that limit; 4K footage straight from the phone often isn't.
| Setting | Recommended | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Container and codec | MP4, H.264 | Matches eBay's stated format |
| Resolution | 1920×1080 or 1080×1080 | eBay accepts up to 1080p; 4K adds size for nothing |
| Frame rate | 30 fps | Standard and smaller than 60 fps |
| Length | 20–60 seconds | Inside eBay's one-minute guidance |
| File size | Under 100 MB | Leaves room under the 150 MB cap |
| Audio | Optional; mute background noise | Many buyers watch with sound off |
- Shooting on an iPhone? Set Camera > Formats to Most Compatible to record H.264 instead of HEVC, or export a copy as H.264.
- Trim the start and end so the item is on screen from the first second.
- Avoid text overlays with links or phone numbers; eBay's off-site contact rules apply to video too.
What should an eBay listing video show?
The things a buyer can't judge from photos: the item working, its true condition up close, its scale and how it moves. For used items, the video is the strongest proof of condition you can give.
| Item type | What to film |
|---|---|
| Electronics, consoles, cameras | Power on, screen working, buttons and ports, any wear |
| Watches and jewelry | Movement ticking, clasp working, sparkle under light, scale on a wrist or hand |
| Clothing and shoes | Fabric drape, inside labels, soles, flaws in good light |
| Collectibles and cards | A slow turn under light to show surface and edges |
| Tools and car parts | Part numbers, fitment points, the tool running |
| Furniture and home | All sides, drawers opening, scale against a room |
- Open on the whole item for two or three seconds.
- Turn it slowly, or walk around it, in steady light.
- Show it working, if it does anything.
- Close in on labels, serial plates and any flaws.
- End on the whole item again.

Animate a photo7 days free · 50 credits · No credit cardCan you use an AI-generated video on eBay?
eBay's help page says videos must follow all eBay policies, and listings must accurately describe the item. A video generated from a photo can only show what's in that photo, so it's fine for a new product's look and feel but no substitute for real footage of a used item's condition.
Be honest about the trade-offs. AiArter's image-to-video tool makes a 5-second clip at 480p for 15 credits. That's inside eBay's limits, but eBay can play back at up to 720p, so a 480p clip will look softer than real 1080p footage. AI motion can also warp labels and fine detail, so check every frame and don't publish a clip that shows something the item doesn't have. For presenter-style ads, see UGC video ads, which are better suited to social channels than to an eBay listing.
Why was my eBay video rejected or not showing?
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Upload fails | File over 150 MB or an unsupported codec | Export H.264 MP4 at 1080p and compress |
| Video option missing | Listing in the app via Seller Hub, a variation listing, or an unsupported site | Use a web browser; check the site |
| Still "in review" | Review takes up to 48 hours, longer at peak times | Wait up to 7 business days |
| Buyers say they can't see it | They're on desktop | Keep key details in photos and text |
| Video removed | It broke an eBay policy (contact details, prohibited content) | Re-cut without the problem and re-upload |
