TikTok Shop product image requirements, in short: the main image should be a square (1:1) JPG or PNG of at least 600×600 pixels, on a pure white background, showing only the product with no text, logos, borders or watermarks. Upload up to nine images per listing, at least five, exported at 1000×1000 or larger.
TikTok Shop is a mobile-first marketplace, so most shoppers see your photos on a small screen, often right after watching a video. The rules are similar to Amazon's, with a lower minimum size and a stronger push for several images per listing. This guide covers the TikTok Shop image size, the main image rules, what the other eight slots should show, why listings get flagged, and a checklist to run before you upload.
- Size: at least 600×600 px. Aim for 1000×1000 to 2000×2000 px so zoom and high-density phone screens look crisp.
- Shape: square (1:1) is the safe default for every product image.
- Main image: pure white background, the real product, nothing added on top.
- Count: up to 9 images per listing. Listings with 5 or more good images tend to score better in TikTok's listing quality checks.
- Files: JPG, JPEG or PNG, in color, kept small (under about 5 MB) for fast uploads.
What size should TikTok Shop product images be?
Upload square images of at least 600×600 pixels, and ideally 1000×1000 or larger. 600 pixels is the floor most sellers report from Seller Center, but it looks soft once a shopper zooms in. Some third-party guides quote 800×800 as the minimum, so exporting at 1000 pixels or more covers both numbers with room to spare.
| Requirement | TikTok Shop rule | What to aim for |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum size | 600×600 px | 1000×1000 px or larger |
| Aspect ratio | Square (1:1) for product images | 1:1, product centered |
| Images per listing | Up to 9 | 5 to 9 |
| File format | JPG, JPEG or PNG | JPG at high quality |
| File size | Small files upload reliably; about 5 MB is the commonly cited cap | Under 2 MB at 2000×2000 |
| Color | Color images (black and white not accepted) | sRGB, true-to-life color |
| Main image background | Pure white | RGB 255, 255, 255 |
TikTok Shop's image size, count and main image rules were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.
A few third-party sources mention a taller 3:4 first image in newer listing guidance. We couldn't confirm that against TikTok's own seller documentation, so square remains the safe choice. If Seller Center shows you a different crop for your category, follow what it shows.
Why not just upload the original phone photo?
A phone photo is usually 3:4 or 9:16 and much larger than needed. TikTok will crop or pad it to fit, and you lose control of what ends up in the frame. Crop to square yourself, keep a small margin around the product, and export at a sensible size. Our free marketplace image resizer does this in the browser: pick a square size, then pad with white or crop.
What are the TikTok Shop main image rules?
The main image must show the real product on a pure white background, with nothing added. It is the thumbnail that appears in search, in the Shop tab and on product cards under videos, so it is held to the strictest standard.
- Pure white background. Not off-white, cream or a grey that looks white on your screen. Check the corners with a color picker; they should read 255, 255, 255.
- The front view of the actual product. No drawings, mockups or placeholder graphics.
- Only what the buyer receives. No props or accessories that aren't included.
- No added text, logos, stickers, borders or watermarks. Branding printed on the product itself is fine.
- No collages. One product view per image; each angle gets its own slot.
- Fill the frame. A small product in a big white square looks weak in a feed of thumbnails. Aim for the product to fill roughly 80–90% of the frame.
A soft shadow under the product is generally fine, as long as the background stays white. It keeps the item from looking pasted on.
If you sell a set, the main image should show everything in the set, and only that. If you sell one item from a range, show just that one item, not the whole range.
What should the other TikTok Shop images show?
Images two to nine should answer the questions a shopper would ask before buying. Secondary images can use lifestyle backgrounds, scale shots and short text, as long as they stay accurate. A good nine-image set looks like this:
| # | Image | What it answers |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Main image on pure white | What is it? |
| 2 | Lifestyle scene | What does it look like in use? |
| 3 | Second angle (back or side) | What does the rest look like? |
| 4 | Close-up of material or detail | Is it well made? |
| 5 | Size or scale reference | How big is it really? |
| 6 | Feature graphic with short text | Why this one? |
| 7 | What's in the box | What exactly do I get? |
| 8 | Color or variant lineup | What options are there? |
| 9 | Second lifestyle or use case | Is it for someone like me? |
Avoid duplicate angles. Two near-identical shots waste a slot and can count against listing quality. If you only have five good images, five distinct ones beat nine repetitive ones.
Turn one phone photo into a pure white TikTok Shop main image and a few lifestyle scenes for slots two to nine.

Most image problems come from a short list, and the background is the usual culprit.
| Problem | Why it happens | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Background not pure white | A white sheet or lightbox photographs as light grey. | Replace the background with exact white. |
| Text or price on the main image | A promo graphic reused as the main image. | Move text to a secondary image. |
| Collage main image | Several angles combined into one square. | Split them into separate slots. |
| Image too small or blurry | A screenshot or a cropped, low-resolution photo. | Reshoot, or upscale a sharp source. |
| Product doesn't match | Wrong color or an old version of the product. | Photograph the exact variant you ship. |
| Watermark or border | Exported from a template or supplier file. | Export clean, with no frame. |
| Supplier stock photo | Same image as dozens of other sellers. | Use your own photo of your own stock. |
Seller Center's listing tools flag weak listings and point to the problem. Check them after every batch upload rather than waiting for sales to drop.
Can I use AI-edited images on TikTok Shop?
Yes, as long as the image still shows the real product accurately. Replacing a messy background with white or placing the product in a generated scene is editing, not misrepresentation. What gets listings into trouble is changing the product itself: adding features it doesn't have, a color you don't sell, or a size it isn't. Keep the product pixels from your own photo, and read TikTok's current policy on AI-generated content for your market, since disclosure rules are changing across platforms.
Pre-upload checklist
- Every image is square and at least 600×600 px; ideally 1000 px or more.
- The main image background reads 255, 255, 255 in the corners.
- The product fills most of the frame, with a small even margin.
- No text, logos, borders, stickers or watermarks on the main image.
- No collages; each angle has its own slot.
- At least five distinct images, with no duplicate angles.
- Files are JPG or PNG, in color, and small enough to upload quickly.
- Color and variant match exactly what the buyer receives.
How to make TikTok Shop images with AiArter
AiArter's photo tools start from your own product photo, so the product stays real and only the background changes.
- Main image (4 credits). The product is cut out and placed on pure white RGB 255, 255, 255, centered and filling about 85% of a 2000×2000 frame, with an optional soft shadow. That is well above TikTok's minimum and square by default.
- Lifestyle scenes (8 credits). Pick a preset such as Marble counter, Wooden table, Living room or Pastel color, or describe your own. The label, color and shape come from your photo.
- Upscale (3 credits) a sharp but small close-up with the AI image upscaler so it holds up when zoomed.
- Feature graphics. Drop the cut-out into a design template and add short callouts for slot six.
- A whole catalog. The bulk background remover handles up to 50 photos per batch with one ZIP download; failed photos aren't charged.
For TikTok videos rather than listing images, the same photo can be resized to 1080×1920 (9:16) for 8 credits, or turned into a short UGC-style video ad with an AI creator holding your product. See our guides to AI UGC video ads and turning a product photo into a video. If you also sell on Amazon, compare the rules in our Amazon product image requirements guide, and for the white-background step itself, see how to make a product photo background white.
Getting a good source photo
Whatever tool you use, start with a sharp photo. Shoot near a window in soft daylight, put the product on a plain surface, tap to focus on the label, and leave space around the edges so you can crop to square without cutting anything off. Shoot every angle you plan to use in one session so the lighting matches across all nine slots.
Frequently asked questions
What size are TikTok Shop product images?
TikTok Shop product images should be square and at least 600×600 pixels. Exporting at 1000×1000 to 2000×2000 pixels keeps them sharp on phone screens and when zoomed. Use JPG or PNG.
Does TikTok Shop require a white background?
The main image should be on a pure white background showing only the product. Secondary images can use lifestyle scenes or colored backgrounds, as long as they show the product accurately.
How many images can I upload to a TikTok Shop listing?
You can upload up to nine product images per listing. Aim for at least five distinct images: a main image, a lifestyle shot, a second angle, a close-up and a scale reference.
Can I put text on TikTok Shop product images?
Not on the main image. Text, logos, borders and watermarks there can get a listing flagged. Short feature text is fine on secondary images.
What is the TikTok Shop image aspect ratio?
Square (1:1) is the standard for product images. Some guides mention a 3:4 first image, but square is the safe default unless Seller Center shows a different crop for your category.
Are AI product photos allowed on TikTok Shop?
AI editing such as background replacement is fine if the product itself is real and accurate. Images that change the product or show features it doesn't have are not. Check TikTok's current AI content policy for disclosure rules in your market.
