Photoroom vs Pixelcut (2026): Pricing, Limits and Which to Choose

Photoroom vs Pixelcut: Pixelcut is the better value for bulk background removal and upscaling, with unlimited cutouts on Pro at $10/month ($8 billed yearly) and an affordable API. Photoroom is the better pick for AI backgrounds, AI fashion models and Shopify, with Pro at $12.99/month or $7.50/month billed yearly for 1,000 exports.

Full disclosure: AiArter is our product. Neither Photoroom nor Pixelcut is ours, so we compare the two first and mention AiArter once at the end as a third option. Every price and limit below comes from Photoroom's and Pixelcut's own pricing, help and product pages, checked in October 2026. Prices change, so check current pricing before you buy.

The short version
  • Both have native iPhone and Android apps plus a web app, so either works for sellers who shoot and edit on a phone.
  • Pixelcut is cheaper for volume cutouts. Pro includes unlimited background removal and upscaling, 1,000 batch exports a month and 3 team seats for $10/month.
  • Photoroom goes further on AI imagery. AI backgrounds, AI fashion models, a brand kit and (on Max) Shopify integration and a video generator.
  • Both have APIs. Pixelcut publishes per-operation credit costs ($0.01 per credit, 5 credits per background removal); Photoroom bills API use separately from its app plans.

Photoroom and Pixelcut prices, plan limits and features, taken from each vendor's pricing, help and product pages, were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.

Which is better for background removal, Photoroom or Pixelcut?

For cutouts alone, Pixelcut is the simpler deal. Its Pro and Business plans list unlimited background removal and upscaling, and the free plan includes limited background removal with watermark-free export. Pixelcut also offers video background removal and upscaling up to 16x.

Photoroom treats background removal as a core tool on its paid plans with no AI-credit cost, under fair-use limits. The catch is the export count: its help center says manual and batch exports share one limit, so a batch of 10 photos uses 10 of your 1,000 monthly Pro exports. If you cut out more than 1,000 images a month, you'd need Max (3,000) or Ultra (10,000).

Edge quality on hair, fur, glass and lace varies photo by photo with every tool, so run your own tricky shots through both free options before you decide.

Which is better for AI backgrounds and product scenes?

Photoroom is stronger here. AI Backgrounds are included on every paid plan, and Pro comes with 8,000 AI credits a month (25,000 on Max). It also offers AI Fashion Models on Pro and above, which matters if you sell clothing and don't want to book a model shoot.

Pixelcut has AI Backgrounds too, capped at 300 a day on Pro and up to 1,200 a day on Business, plus generative fill and expand image. Its AI tools draw on a monthly credit pool (600 on Pro), and the number of results you get depends on which AI model you pick. For a seller who mainly needs clean cutouts with the occasional styled scene, that's usually enough.

Photoroom vs Pixelcut pricing: which is cheaper?

On sticker price, they're close. Photoroom Pro is $12.99 billed monthly or $89.99 a year; Pixelcut Pro is $10 billed monthly or $8 a month billed yearly (Pixelcut says yearly saves 20%). The bigger difference is the unit:

  • Photoroom counts every export, manual or batch, against a monthly limit.
  • Pixelcut lists background removal and upscaling as unlimited, with a separate limit on batch exports and a credit pool for generative AI.
  • Teams: Pixelcut Pro includes 3 seats and Business 10. Photoroom's paid plans allow up to 50 seats; check its pricing page for how seats are billed.

Cost per exported image at full use

PlanPriceMonthly allowanceCost per image if you use it all
Photoroom Pro, yearly$89.99/yr1,000 exportsabout 0.75 cents
Photoroom Pro, monthly$12.99/mo1,000 exportsabout 1.3 cents
Photoroom Max, yearly$250/yr3,000 exportsabout 0.69 cents
Pixelcut Pro, yearly$8/mo1,000 batch exports0.8 cents
Pixelcut Pro, monthly$10/mo1,000 batch exports1 cent
Pixelcut API$0.01 per credit5 credits per background removal5 cents

These figures only hold if you use the full allowance every month. A shop that edits 100 photos a month pays the same plan price, so the real cost per image is ten times higher. Budget on your actual volume.

Which has the better API?

Pixelcut publishes clear API pricing: one flat monthly rate at $0.01 per credit, starting at $10 for 1,000 credits. Background removal costs 5 credits per successful call, upscaling 10, and generate background, try-on and outpaint 10 each. That makes cost easy to predict.

Photoroom's API is billed separately from its app plans, and each paid plan includes an API credit wallet worth the plan's price, billed at API rates. Check Photoroom's API pricing for current per-call rates. Both suit developers; Pixelcut's numbers are easier to estimate up front.

Photoroom vs Pixelcut: which should you choose?

  • Choose Pixelcut if you mostly remove backgrounds and upscale in volume, want a small team on one plan, or need a cheap, predictable API.
  • Choose Photoroom if you want AI backgrounds, AI fashion models, a brand kit and Shopify integration, or a team larger than 10.
  • Either works for phone-first sellers: both have native apps.

A third option for marketplace photo sets

If you work in a browser and want each listing's full set in one place, AiArter (our product) is worth a look. It cuts your product out and keeps it as shot, then generates only the background: a white main image costs 4 credits and a lifestyle scene 8 credits, with batches of up to 50 photos. It's web only, with no mobile app, no public API and no AI fashion models, so it doesn't replace either tool on those points.

Upload one product photo and get a white main image and a lifestyle scene, with your product kept exactly as you shot it.

Check the export rules before a big batch

On Photoroom, every batch image counts as one export. On Pixelcut, batch exports have their own monthly cap even though cutouts are unlimited. Run a small batch first and watch how your allowance moves.

How to choose between Photoroom and Pixelcut

  1. Count your monthly images, including every channel size you export, not just product count.
  2. Decide what you need beyond cutouts: AI scenes, fashion models, video or an API.
  3. Check team size. Pixelcut caps seats at 3 (Pro) or 10 (Business).
  4. Test the free options with the same three hard photos: something shiny, something with fine edges and something clear.
  5. Compare at 100% zoom and check that labels and colors weren't changed.
  6. Check marketplace fit. Run a few exports through our free Amazon image checker before uploading a full catalog.
