Facebook Ad Image Size for Products (2026): Feed, Stories, Reels and Link Ads

The best Facebook ad image size for products is 1440×1800 pixels (4:5) for the feed, 1080×1080 or larger (1:1) for carousels and catalog ads, and 1440×2560 (9:16) for Stories and Reels. Meta accepts JPG or PNG up to 30 MB. The older 1200×628 (1.91:1) link-ad size still works but shows smaller on phones.

Meta lets one ad run across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and other placements, and each placement prefers a different shape. Upload one wide image and Meta will crop or pad it to fit the rest, often cutting into your product. This guide gives the sizes for each placement, the text and safe-zone rules that matter for product ads, and a short set of creative tips for physical products.

The short version
  • Feed: 4:5 at 1440×1800 is Meta's current recommendation. 1080×1350 is the same ratio and also works. Minimum width is 600 pixels.
  • Carousel and catalog ads: square 1:1. Catalog images need at least 500×500; 1024×1024 or more is better.
  • Stories and Reels: 9:16 at 1440×2560 (1080×1920 is fine). Keep text and the product out of the top 14% and bottom 35%.
  • 1.91:1 (1200×628) is still accepted for link placements, but it's no longer the best default for mobile feeds.
  • Prepare three shapes per ad: 4:5, 1:1 and 9:16, so Meta doesn't have to crop your product.

What is the best Facebook ad image size for products?

Use a 4:5 vertical image for the feed and add 1:1 and 9:16 versions for other placements. Vertical images take up more of a phone screen than square or wide ones, which gives the product more room. Here are the specs from Meta's ads guide and the sizes we'd aim for:

PlacementAspect ratioRecommended sizeMinimum / notes
Facebook and Instagram feed4:51440×1800 pxMin. width 600 px (Facebook), 500 px (Instagram)
Feed (square)1:11440×1440 px1080×1080 also fine; shows smaller than 4:5
Carousel cards1:11080×1080 px or largerUse the same ratio on every card
Catalog / Advantage+ catalog ads1:11024×1024 px or largerCatalog minimum 500×500
Stories9:161440×2560 pxMin. width 500 px; mind the safe zone
Reels9:161440×2560 px1080×1920 works; mind the captions area
Link ads, right column, search1.91:11200×628 pxStill accepted; small on mobile

All placements accept JPG and PNG up to 30 MB. Meta allows a small tolerance on each ratio, about 1–3% depending on the placement, so a 1080×1350 image counts as 4:5. To get the 4:5 and 1:1 versions from one photo, our free Facebook image resizer pads it with a color or crops it to the exact ad size, right in your browser.

Meta's image ad specs for feed, Stories, Reels and catalog placements were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.

Is 1080 pixels still enough?

Yes. Meta now recommends 1440 pixels wide for feed and Stories images, which looks sharper on high-resolution phones, but 1080 wide is well above the minimum and still widely used. If you have the pixels, export at 1440; if your source is smaller, 1080 is fine. Don't go below 600 pixels wide for the feed.

What size are Facebook Stories and Reels ad images?

Use 9:16 at 1440×2560 or 1080×1920 pixels, and keep the important parts in the middle. Meta's guidance is to keep text, logos and the product out of roughly the top 14%, the bottom 35% and about 6% on each side, where the profile name, captions and call-to-action button can cover them.

Area of a 1080×1920 frameApproximate pixelsWhat to put there
Top 14%Top 270 pxBackground only
MiddleAbout 270–1250 px from the topProduct, headline, offer
Bottom 35%Bottom 670 pxBackground only; the CTA and captions sit here
SidesAbout 65 px each sideKeep text clear of the edges

A product photo shot square won't fill this frame on its own. Extending the background around the product to 9:16 looks far better than zooming in until the product is cropped; an AI image extender does this at the exact Story size.

When should I use 1.91:1 (1200×628)?

Use 1.91:1 only when you're targeting placements that need it, such as link ads on desktop, the right column or search results. It was the standard Facebook ad size for years, and Meta still accepts it, but on a phone a wide image fills less than half the screen height that a 4:5 image does. If you run a single image everywhere, a 1:1 or 4:5 image with placement-specific versions is a better choice.

Turn one product photo into a 4:5 feed image, a 9:16 Story and a 1200×628 link ad, with AI filling the extra space instead of cropping the product.

How much text can a Facebook ad image have?

There's no fixed limit any more, but less is better. Meta retired its old rule that rejected images with more than 20% text, yet its own guidance still recommends keeping text on images short, because image-heavy ads tend to read better in a fast-moving feed. Put most of your message in the ad copy instead.

Ad elementMeta's suggested lengthTip for product ads
Text on the imageAs little as possibleProduct name or one benefit, five or six words
Primary text50–150 charactersLead with the problem the product solves
HeadlineAbout 27 charactersProduct name plus one concrete detail

Avoid putting a price on the image if you'll change it often, and never use claims you can't support, such as “best seller” or health claims. Meta's advertising standards apply to the image as well as the copy.

Creative tips for product ad images

The product should be clear within a second of scrolling past. These habits help most product ads:

  • One product, big in the frame. A small product in a busy scene gets lost on a phone.
  • Show it in use or in context. A lifestyle scene answers “where would I use this?” better than a catalog shot. Our lifestyle product photography ideas list has scenes by product type.
  • Contrast with the feed. Feeds are mostly white and grey, so a product on a warm color or a darker scene stands out more than one on plain white.
  • Test backgrounds, not just copy. The same product on white, on a brand color and in a lifestyle scene can perform very differently. Change one thing at a time. An AI image generator can draft concept images to test, as long as the product shown is the one you ship.
  • Keep catalog images clean. For catalog ads, the base image should be the product only. Add offers through Meta's overlay options rather than baking them into the photo.
  • Try video too. Short vertical videos often suit Reels better than stills. See our guide to turning a product photo into video and our guide to AI UGC video ads.
Check the preview before you publish

Ads Manager shows a preview for every placement. Click through each one, especially Stories and Reels, and look for a cropped product or text hidden behind buttons. If you've uploaded placement-specific images, make sure each placement is using the right one.

How to make Facebook ad images with AiArter

AiArter turns one product photo into the shapes Meta asks for. You download the images and upload them in Ads Manager; AiArter doesn't create or run the ads.

  • Channel sizes (8 credits each). Instagram post 1080×1350 (4:5) for the feed, Story/Reel 1080×1920 (9:16), and Facebook/Google ad 1200×628 for link placements. AI fills the extra space instead of stretching.
  • Lifestyle scenes (8 credits). The product is cut out of your photo and kept as-is, so labels and colors stay true. Ten presets, or describe your own scene.
  • Clean square images (4 credits). White or a brand color at 2000×2000 for carousel cards and catalog ads.
  • Upscale (3 credits) a small but sharp source photo with the AI image upscaler before resizing.
  • Text ads. For sale or offer ads, use a design template with your cut-out.
  • Video ads. UGC video ads with AI creators produce 9:16 talking-to-camera videos for Reels and Stories.

If you also run catalog ads from an Instagram Shop, our Instagram Shop product image size guide covers the catalog side.

Frequently asked questions

What size should Facebook ad images be for products?

Use 4:5 at 1440×1800 pixels for the feed, square 1:1 for carousels and catalog ads, and 9:16 at 1440×2560 or 1080×1920 for Stories and Reels. Upload JPG or PNG files up to 30 MB.

Is 1080x1080 still a good size for Facebook ads?

Yes, 1080×1080 still works for feed and carousel placements. A 4:5 image takes more screen space in mobile feeds, though, so many advertisers use 1080×1350 or 1440×1800 for the main feed image.

Is 1200x628 still used for Facebook ads?

Meta still accepts 1200×628 (1.91:1) for link ads and placements like the right column and search results. On phones it appears much smaller than square or vertical images, so it's no longer the best default.

Does Facebook still have the 20% text rule?

No, Meta retired the rule that limited text to 20% of an ad image. It still recommends keeping text on images short, so put most of your message in the primary text and headline.

What is the minimum image size for Facebook ads?

Meta lists a minimum width of 600 pixels for Facebook feed images and 500 pixels for Stories and Instagram feed. Catalog images need at least 500×500. Larger images look sharper, so aim for 1080 to 1440 pixels wide.

What is the safe zone for Facebook and Instagram Stories ads?

Meta suggests keeping text, logos and key elements out of roughly the top 14% and bottom 35% of a 9:16 image, and about 6% from each side. Those areas can be covered by the profile name, captions and the call-to-action button.
