    Questions about listing character counter

    Is the listing character counter free?
    Yes. It's free with no sign-up and no limit on use.
    Is my listing text sent anywhere?
    No. The counting happens in your browser. Your text never leaves your device and is gone when you close the page.
    Where do the limits come from?
    Limits labeled published were checked on the marketplace's own pages in October 2026. Amazon: titles up to 200 characters including spaces in most categories, and no ! $ ? _ { } ^ ¬ ¦ or a word used more than twice, as published by Amazon in its Seller Forums announcement of the title rules that took effect January 21, 2025. Etsy: titles up to 140 characters and up to 13 tags of 20 characters each, as published by Etsy on its Help Center pages “How to Create a Listing” and “How to Use Tags to Get Found in Search”. eBay: titles up to 80 characters and subtitles up to 55, as published by eBay in its developer docs on listing titles. Shopify: SEO titles up to 70 characters, with 160 recommended for meta descriptions, as published by Shopify on “Adding keywords for SEO”.
    What does a common limit mean?
    It's a typical value we couldn't confirm on an official page, such as Amazon's bullet and search term limits or Walmart's fields. It's labeled “common” in the tool. Limits vary by category, so check your seller account and change the number if yours is different.
    Why count bytes as well as characters?
    Some fields, such as Amazon's search terms, are commonly limited in bytes. Plain letters take 1 byte, but accented letters like é take 2 and most emoji take 4, so a field can be over its byte limit while the character count looks fine.
    Which characters does Etsy reject?
    Etsy's API documentation says titles can contain letters, numbers, punctuation, math symbols, spaces and ™ © ®, and %, :, & and + only once each. Tags can contain letters, numbers, spaces, hyphens, apostrophes and ™ © ®. The counter checks both rules.
    Does it write my listing?
