Kaufland is one of Germany's largest online marketplaces and now runs marketplaces in several European countries. Its rules sit in the Product Data Guideline in Kaufland Global Marketplace's Seller University, and they are stricter than most sellers expect on the main image: no shadows and no packaging, which rules out many photos that pass on other marketplaces. This guide lists every rule from that guideline, explains the parts that seem to contradict each other, and shows how to prepare images that pass. What are Kaufland's main image rules?
A white background, a clear silhouette of the whole product, and nothing else: only the product and any accessories that ship with it.

Two Kaufland rules catch sellers out. First, shadows aren't allowed on the main image, so a soft drop shadow that's fine on Amazon or Shopify should be removed. Second, the guideline bans excess white space while asking for a white background; read that as "fill the frame": crop tight so the product takes up most of the image, as on other marketplaces.
What size should Kaufland product images be?
2048 pixels or more on the longest side; 2048×2048 square is the simplest choice. That meets Kaufland's zoom threshold, is double the 1024-pixel minimum, and stays far below the 10 MB limit as a JPEG.

What should the other Kaufland images show?

- Scale: in hand or next to a familiar object, or a dimensions image.
- In use: a lifestyle photo in a real setting.
- Contents: everything included, laid out.
- Packaging: fine here, just not on the main image.
How do you write alt text for Kaufland images?
Describe what each image shows in a short sentence: the product, its color and the angle or detail. Kaufland's guideline says alt text has been a legal requirement since June 2025, which lines up with the European Accessibility Act taking effect that month.
