How it’s calculated
  • Sold during lead time = average daily sales × lead time
  • Worst-case safety stock: (highest daily sales × longest lead time) − (average daily sales × average lead time). 18 × 20 − 12 × 14 = 192.
  • Reorder point = sold during lead time + safety stock. 168 + 192 = 360.
  • Stock position = in stock + already on order
  • Days of stock left = in stock ÷ average daily sales
  • Days until reorder point = (stock position − reorder point) ÷ average daily sales
  • Order-up-to level = average daily sales × (lead time + days to cover) + safety stock
  • Suggested order = order-up-to level − stock position, rounded up to whole units. It’s enough to cover your chosen days after the order arrives, with the safety stock still on hand.

Dates count calendar days from today on this device. Round the order up to your supplier’s case pack or minimum order quantity.

FAQ

Questions about reorder point calculator

Is the reorder point calculator free?
Yes. It's free with no sign-up.
Are my numbers saved or sent anywhere?
No. The calculator runs in your browser. Your numbers never leave your device.
How is the reorder point calculated?
Reorder point = average daily sales × lead time + safety stock. Selling 12 a day with a 14-day lead time uses 168 units while you wait. With 192 units of safety stock, you reorder when stock falls to 360.
How is safety stock worked out?
The worst-case method takes your highest daily sales × your longest lead time and subtracts average daily sales × average lead time. 18 × 20 − 12 × 14 = 192 units. It's simple and cautious. If you use a different method, choose to enter safety stock yourself.
How much should I order?
The suggestion fills you up to enough stock for the lead time plus the days you want each order to cover, plus safety stock, minus what you have and what's already on order. Round it to your supplier's case pack or minimum order.
What lead time should I use for Amazon FBA?
Count every day from placing the order to having units available to sell: production, shipping, customs and the time to check in at the warehouse.
Does it predict seasonal demand?
No. It uses the average daily sales you enter. Before a busy season, enter the sales you expect for that period instead.
