Clipdrop Alternatives (2026): 5 AI Image Tools Compared

The best Clipdrop alternatives in 2026 are Pixelcut (free tier plus Pro at $8/month billed yearly), Photoroom ($7.50/month billed yearly for 1,000 exports), remove.bg (cutouts from $9/month), Claid.ai (credit-based editing and an API) and AiArter (product photo tools from $12/month). Clipdrop is now run by Jasper and keeps a free plan with daily limits.

Disclosure: AiArter is our product, so weigh our entry with that in mind. Every competitor price and limit below comes from the vendor's own pricing, help or product pages, checked in October 2026. Clipdrop's pricing page didn't show a readable Pro price when we checked, so we don't quote one. Check current pricing before you buy.

The short version
  • Clipdrop is still running. Its site says InitML, the company behind it, was acquired by Stability AI in February 2023 and sold to Jasper in February 2024. Support now runs through Jasper.
  • Free plan: 20 uses per 24 hours each of background removal, 2× upscaling, Cleanup and Relight, and 50 text removals. Pro raises most tools to 1,000 high-resolution uses per 24 hours.
  • Closest all-in-one swap: Pixelcut, which has a free tier with background removal, upscaling, an eraser and image expansion.
  • For product photos specifically, Photoroom and AiArter build finished listing images; for an API, look at remove.bg, Claid.ai or Clipdrop's own usage-based API.

Competitor prices, limits and ownership details, taken from each vendor's own pages, were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.

Is Clipdrop still available, and who owns it?

Yes. Clipdrop's site is live and lists its tools: Remove background, Cleanup, Uncrop, Image upscaler, Relight, Text remover, Replace background, Text to image and a Universal Resizer. Its about text says InitML co-founded Clipdrop in 2020, was acquired by Stability AI in February 2023 and was sold to Jasper in February 2024. The site links to a Jasper free trial, and an “Access newer models” link points to Jasper's API docs. We saw no shutdown notice.

Its FAQ says its terms don't restrict commercial use of generated images, and it mentions a Photoshop plugin.

People usually look for a Clipdrop alternative because of the daily caps, because they want a tool built around one workflow (product listings, catalogs, design) rather than separate single tools, or because they're unsure about its future after two changes of owner.

Which Clipdrop alternative is best for each job?

1. Pixelcut: the closest set of tools

Pixelcut covers most of Clipdrop's everyday tools. Its free tier includes limited background removal, upscaling, Magic Eraser, Generative Fill and Expand Image, with exports that carry no watermark. Pro is $10/month, or $8/month billed yearly, with unlimited background removal and upscaling, 600 AI credits, 1,000 batch exports a month and a commercial license; AI tools such as Expand Image are capped at 300 a day. It has iPhone and Android apps and an API.

Suits: anyone who used Clipdrop for cutouts, cleanup and expansion and wants higher limits for a low price. See Pixelcut alternatives.

2. Photoroom: product photos, start to finish

Photoroom's pricing page lists Pro at $7.50/month billed yearly with 1,000 exports and Max at $20.99/month billed yearly with 3,000 exports. It adds AI Backgrounds, AI Fashion Models and batch processing, with iPhone, iPad, Android, web and Shopify apps, and each paid plan includes an API wallet worth the plan's price.

Suits: sellers who want finished product images rather than separate tools. See Photoroom alternatives.

3. remove.bg: if you only used Clipdrop for cutouts

remove.bg does background removal only. One credit buys one full-resolution image; subscriptions start at $9/month for 40 credits. It has an API, a Windows, Mac and Linux desktop app, a Photoshop extension and an Android app.

Suits: designers and developers who need clean cutouts. Clipdrop's free 20 a day may already be enough for light use. See remove.bg alternatives.

4. Claid.ai: upscaling and outpainting with an API

Claid.ai uses credits: background removal is 1 credit, upscaling 2–8, outpainting and AI shadows 2, and AI Photoshoot 4. The free trial includes 50 credits, Pro includes 2,000 credits a month, and API plans are sold separately. Plan prices load at checkout, so check current pricing.

Suits: catalogs that need upscaling and extension at volume. See Claid.ai alternatives.

5. AiArter: product photo tools in the browser (our product)

AiArter overlaps with several Clipdrop tools but is built for product listings. Each tool has a fixed credit price and failed results aren't charged.

Where Clipdrop or others win: AiArter has no Relight or dedicated text remover, no public API, no mobile app and no permanent free plan, and trial images carry a small “Made with aiarter” mark. Clipdrop's free daily allowance costs nothing for light use.

Upload a product photo and get a clean cutout, a white main image and a lifestyle scene, with the product kept exactly as shot.

How do the costs compare per image?

Clipdrop's free plan is hard to beat for 20 edits a day. Beyond that, here's the cost per result at full use of each plan.

AiArter Starter$12/mo1,000 credits4.8 cents; 3.6 cents per 4× upscale

For high-volume cutouts, Pixelcut and Photoroom are the cheapest. AiArter costs more per cutout but includes centering, shadows and marketplace sizing. For more on upscaling, see how to upscale product photos.

Free tools that don't need an account

For resizing and cropping, AiArter's free marketplace image resizer and image cropper run in your browser with no sign-up and nothing uploaded.

How to choose a Clipdrop alternative

  1. List the Clipdrop tools you use. Cutout, cleanup, relight, upscale, uncrop or text removal.
  2. Count daily volume. Under 20 a day, Clipdrop's free plan may still be the best option.
  3. Decide if you need an API. Clipdrop, remove.bg, Claid.ai, Photoroom and Pixelcut offer one; AiArter doesn't.
  4. Check output resolution on the free tier of each tool, since many limit free exports.
  5. Test on your own photos, especially hair, glass and fine edges, before you commit.
