ChatGPT vs Gemini for Product Photos (2026): Editing, Accuracy and Price

ChatGPT vs Gemini for product photos: Gemini is the better place to start, because image editing works on a free Google account and paid plans begin at $4.99/month. ChatGPT is stronger when you want to select one area of the photo and change only that. Both redraw your product, so check labels. ChatGPT Go is $8/month and Plus $20/month.

Full disclosure: AiArter is our product; ChatGPT and Gemini are not. We compare the two fairly first and mention AiArter once, where it fits. Plan details come from OpenAI's and Google's own pages, checked in October 2026. Prices, limits and models change often, so check current pricing before you pay.

The short version
  • Free testing: Gemini. Google lists image generation and editing with Nano Banana 2 on accounts with no AI plan.
  • Targeted edits: ChatGPT. Its Select tool lets you highlight one part of an uploaded photo and describe the change.
  • Accuracy: both generate a new image, so label text, logos and colors can change. Neither is a safe source for a marketplace main image without close checking.
  • Price: Google AI Plus $4.99/month, AI Pro $19.99/month; ChatGPT Go $8/month, Plus $20/month. Both count images against usage limits, not a fixed image count.
  • Watermarks: Gemini adds an invisible SynthID mark to every image and a visible mark unless you turn it off where allowed.

Can Gemini edit my product photo for free?

Yes. Google's Gemini help pages list image generation with Nano Banana 2 for accounts with no AI plan, under “standard limits”. Google describes Gemini usage as compute-based: image work uses more of your allowance than text, and limits refresh over time rather than as a fixed number of images. Paid plans raise the limits (AI Plus 2x, AI Pro 4x) and add “Redo with Pro”, which re-runs an image with Nano Banana Pro.

Our guide to editing product photos with Gemini has 20 prompts, and our Nano Banana product photography prompts go deeper on scenes.

  • Strong: free experiments, quick background swaps, props and lighting changes.
  • Weak: exact label text and pixel-identical products; a visible mark appears by default.

Can ChatGPT edit my product photo?

Yes. OpenAI's help center says you can upload an image and describe the change, or use the Select tool (top right of the image on the web) to highlight one area and describe what should change there. OpenAI also says its latest image model handles denser, smaller text, which helps with social graphics that carry a headline or price.

OpenAI notes that selections aren't always precise and edits can spread past the highlighted area. And like Gemini, ChatGPT generates a new image, so the product itself can drift. Our guide to ChatGPT product photos has prompts that reduce this.

  • Strong: targeted area edits, step-by-step refinement, images with added text.
  • Weak: free use is limited, and dense labels can still change.

Which keeps the real product and label more accurate?

Neither tool copies your product's pixels; both draw a new version of it. So the honest answer is that accuracy depends more on the product than the tool. Plain shapes with no text usually come through well. Fine print, nutrition panels, patterns and exact brand colors are where both are most likely to slip.

What to checkWhy it changesWhat to do
Label wordsText is redrawn letter by letterRead every word at full size
Logo shapeSmall marks get simplifiedCompare side by side with the original
ColorLighting prompts shift shadesAsk to keep colors exactly; check on a calibrated screen
Count and sizeMulti-packs and proportions driftState the count; compare outlines

Add “keep the product, label and colors exactly as in my photo” to every prompt, make one change at a time, and re-upload the original rather than editing an edit. Even then, treat results as secondary or social images until you've checked them.

What if the label must stay exactly right?

Use a tool that keeps your product's pixels and only generates the background. That's how AiArter (our product) works: it cuts the product out of your photo, then builds a scene around it with the AI background generator (8 credits) or places it on pure white for an Amazon main image (4 credits). The image extender resizes it for Shopify, Etsy or Instagram. It won't restyle the product or answer open-ended creative requests the way a chatbot does, it's web only, and there's no free plan, only a 14-day trial.

Turn one product photo into a white main image and a lifestyle scene, with the label kept exactly as you shot it.

How much do ChatGPT and Gemini cost for product photos?

Neither sells images one by one in its consumer app. You pay for a plan, and image creation draws on its usage limits.

Google AI Plus$4.992x standard limits; Redo with Nano Banana Pro
Google AI Pro$19.994x standard limits; Redo with Nano Banana Pro

Prices are US prices and differ by country. If you already pay for Google One storage or ChatGPT for writing, the cheapest option is often the one you have.

Keep the original

Always edit from your original photo, not from a previous AI edit. Each round of regeneration can drift a little further from the real product, and small changes add up.

How to choose between ChatGPT and Gemini

  1. Start free in Gemini with one product photo and one scene request.
  2. Try the same request in ChatGPT, then use Select to fix one area.
  3. Compare at 100%: label words, logo, color and proportions.
  4. Pick by habit: if one edit at a time on a chosen area matters, ChatGPT; if low cost and quick swaps matter, Gemini.
  5. Check the watermark settings before using images in ads.
  6. Use your real photo for the main image, cleaned up on white, and keep AI scenes for the gallery.

Frequently asked questions

Is ChatGPT or Gemini better for product photos?

Gemini is the better starting point for most sellers because image editing works on a free Google account and paid plans start at $4.99 a month. ChatGPT is stronger for targeted edits, since its Select tool changes only the area you highlight. Both can alter labels, so check every result.

Is Gemini image editing free?

Yes, within limits. Google lists image generation and editing with Nano Banana 2 for accounts with no AI plan, under standard usage limits that refresh over time. Paid Google AI plans raise those limits and add Redo with Nano Banana Pro.

Does Gemini or ChatGPT change my product's label?

Both can. Each generates a new image rather than copying your product, so small text, logos and colors may change. Asking to keep the label exactly helps but isn't a guarantee.

How much does ChatGPT Plus cost compared with Google AI Pro?

ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month and Google AI Pro is $19.99 a month in the US. Cheaper tiers exist: ChatGPT Go at $8 and Google AI Plus at $4.99. Prices vary by country.

Do Gemini images have a watermark?

Yes. Google adds an invisible SynthID watermark to all images created or edited in Gemini Apps, and a visible mark by default. The visible mark can be turned off in settings in most regions; the SynthID mark stays.

Can I use ChatGPT or Gemini photos on Amazon?

Amazon expects the main image to show the actual product on pure white. AI-edited images that redraw the product are safer as secondary images, and only if they accurately match what the buyer receives.
