How to Edit Product Photos with Gemini (2026): Steps, 20 Prompts and Limits

You can edit product photos with Gemini for free: open the Gemini app, choose Create images, upload your photo and describe the change, such as "put this bottle on a marble counter, keep the label exactly the same". It uses Nano Banana 2. Free use has rolling usage limits, and every result carries an invisible SynthID watermark.

For sellers, Gemini is one of the easiest ways to try a new background, add props or make a seasonal version of a product shot without learning editing software. But it redraws the whole image, so labels can drift. This guide covers the steps, 20 prompts, the 2026 limits and watermarks, and when another tool fits better.

The short version
  • Where: gemini.google.com or the Gemini app, tools menu, Create images, then upload your photo and type the edit.
  • Model: Nano Banana 2 for everyday edits; paid Google AI plans can "Redo with Pro" using Nano Banana Pro.
  • Limits: free accounts get rolling usage limits that Google doesn't publish as a fixed number; paid plans get more and higher resolution.
  • Watermarks: an invisible SynthID mark stays on every image. Google began letting users turn off the visible sparkle mark in August 2026, except in some regions.
  • Check every result against your real product: label text, logo, color and shape can change.

How do you edit product photos with Gemini?

Upload a clear photo, ask for one change at a time, and tell Gemini to keep the product unchanged. The whole process takes about a minute per image.

  1. Start with a good photo. Daylight, plain background, product filling most of the frame, label facing the camera. Gemini can't add detail that isn't there.
  2. Open Gemini at gemini.google.com or in the app and sign in with a Google account.
  3. Pick Create images from the tools menu (marked with a banana icon), then attach your photo with the + button.
  4. Describe the edit in plain words, ending with "keep the product exactly as it is".
  5. Compare with the original. Zoom in on the label, logo, cap, stitching and color.
  6. Refine in small steps: "warmer light", "move the product slightly left", "remove the cup". If the product starts drifting after several edits, start a new chat and upload the original again.
  7. Download the image from the result's menu.

What can Gemini change in a product photo?

Gemini handles background swaps, props, lighting, seasonal themes and small clean-ups well. It is weaker at exact text, precise sizes and anything that needs the product to stay pixel-identical.

Gemini prompts for product photo editing

Each prompt assumes you've uploaded your product photo. Add "keep the product, label and colors exactly as in my photo" to the end of any of them.

Backgrounds

  • "Replace the background with a clean white seamless studio backdrop, soft even light, subtle shadow under the product, square."
  • "Put the product on a light grey studio sweep with a soft reflection underneath."
  • "Place it on a solid sage green background with a soft drop shadow, flat lighting."
  • "Change the background to a warm beige paper backdrop with soft daylight."

Lifestyle scenes

  • "Put the product on a white marble kitchen counter with morning window light from the left and a blurred plant behind."
  • "Place it on a wooden desk next to a laptop and a coffee cup, natural daylight, vertical 4:5."
  • "Show it on a bathroom shelf with white tiles and rolled towels, spa feeling."
  • "Set it on a picnic blanket in a sunny park with soft background blur."
  • "Put it on a nightstand in a cozy bedroom at dusk, warm lamp light."

Clean-up and fixes

  • "Remove the cable and the dust spots on the table, change nothing else."
  • "Straighten the photo and make the lighting brighter and more even."
  • "Remove the reflection of the window on the bottle."
  • "Make the white background brighter and more even without changing the product."

Seasonal and ad versions

  • "Add a festive setting: pine branches, warm fairy lights and wrapped gifts blurred behind."
  • "Make an autumn version with orange leaves and a knit blanket on a wooden table."
  • "Summer version: product on pale sand with a blurred blue sea behind, bright sun."
  • "Move the product to the left third and leave the right side empty and plain for text, wide 16:9."
  • "Extend the background so the image becomes vertical 9:16 with the product in the lower half."
  • "Add a few fresh ingredients around the product: sliced lemon and mint leaves."
  • "Make a flat lay from above with the product in the center and matching accessories around it."

Is Gemini image editing free, and what are the limits?

Yes, image editing works on free Google accounts, but within usage limits. Google describes these as compute-based limits that refresh over time rather than a fixed number of images, and image generation uses more of the allowance than text. You can see how much you've used in the app's settings.

Invisible SynthIDAlwaysAlways

Gemini image limits, models and watermark settings were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.

Do Gemini product photos have a watermark?

Every Gemini image carries an invisible SynthID watermark, and most also show a small visible sparkle mark. In August 2026 Google started rolling out a setting (Settings, then Media watermark) that lets users switch the visible mark off. It isn't offered in regions that require visible labels, such as the EU and South Korea for some content.

  • SynthID stays in the pixels and C2PA content credentials stay in the file, so tools and platforms can still detect that the image is AI-generated.
  • Ad platforms read these signals. Meta and TikTok use content credentials to add AI labels to ads and posts.
  • Marketplaces that ban watermarks mean visible marks; an invisible SynthID mark isn't a visible watermark, but a visible sparkle on a main image could be a problem.

Why does Gemini change my product?

Gemini regenerates the whole image, including your product, so it can rewrite small label text, shift a logo, round a corner or change a shade. It is better at this than older models, but not perfect, and the drift tends to grow over several rounds of edits.

  • Say "keep the product, label and colors exactly the same" in every prompt.
  • Make one change per prompt rather than five at once.
  • Re-upload the original after three or four edits instead of editing an edit.
  • Use a higher-resolution source photo, so the label is legible to begin with.
  • For listing photos, place a cut-out of your real product on the new background instead.

Consistency across a whole catalog is the other challenge: Gemini interprets each prompt fresh, so ten products edited with the same prompt can come out with ten slightly different lights and shadows. Our guide to consistent product photos covers how to keep a set matching.

When is Gemini the right tool, and when isn't it?

Gemini is ideal for one-off ideas, social posts and quick experiments. A dedicated product photo tool fits better when you need exact sizes, true white, batches or an untouched product.

Editing product photos with AiArter

AiArter's generator tools run the same Nano Banana 2 model as Gemini, and its product photo tools are built to leave your product untouched.

  • White main image (4 credits): the white background tool places your cut-out on pure RGB 255,255,255, centered at about 85% of a 2000×2000 frame.
  • Lifestyle scenes (8 credits): 10 presets or your own description; only the background is generated.
  • Plain-language edits (8 credits): edit image with AI removes objects or changes a background from a sentence, using FLUX Kontext Pro.
  • New scenes from your photo (17 credits): the image to image generator uses Nano Banana 2 with your product as a reference. Like Gemini, it may not match the product pixel for pixel.
  • Sizes: the AI image extender fills extra space for 4:5, 9:16 and banner sizes, and the free marketplace image resizer handles simple resizes.
  • Bulk: up to 50 photos per batch in the product photo tool; failed photos aren't charged.

Frequently asked questions

Can Gemini edit product photos?

Yes. In the Gemini app, choose Create images, upload your product photo and describe the change, such as a new background or props. It uses Google's Nano Banana 2 model. Check that the label and colors still match your real product.

Is Gemini photo editing free?

Yes, free Google accounts can edit images within usage limits that refresh over time. Google doesn't publish a fixed daily number. Paid Google AI plans get higher limits, higher resolution and access to Nano Banana Pro.

Does Gemini add a watermark to edited photos?

Every Gemini image has an invisible SynthID watermark that can't be turned off. Since August 2026 Google has been rolling out a setting to hide the visible sparkle mark, but it isn't available in every region.

Can I use Gemini-edited photos on Amazon?

Amazon requires images to accurately show the product, and the main image needs a pure white background. Gemini redraws the product and rarely produces exact white, so it's safer for secondary and lifestyle images. Images with AI-generated people need a disclosure tag.

How do I stop Gemini from changing my product?

Add "keep the product, label and colors exactly as in my photo" to every prompt, make one change at a time and re-upload the original after a few edits. For pixel-exact results, use a tool that only replaces the background.

What is the best prompt to edit a product photo in Gemini?

Name the surface, background and light, then protect the product: "Put this bottle on a white marble counter with soft morning window light from the left; keep the label and colors exactly the same; vertical 4:5."
