Midjourney Product Photography Prompts (2026): 28 Prompts, Parameters and Image References

Good Midjourney product photography prompts follow one pattern: product, surface, background, light, camera, then parameters such as --ar 4:5 and a low --stylize (around 50–150) for realism. Add your product photo as an image reference so the shape and color stay close. Below are 28 copy-paste prompts for studio shots, lifestyle scenes and ads.

Midjourney makes some of the most polished, moody product imagery of any AI tool, which is why sellers use it for ad concepts, mood boards and social posts. It is less reliable at keeping your exact label and proportions. This guide covers prompt structure, 2026 parameters, image references, the fidelity problem and where Midjourney images belong in your store.

The short version
  • Prompt pattern: [product] on [surface], [background], [light], [camera/lens], [mood] --ar [ratio] --s [stylize].
  • For realism: keep --stylize low (roughly 50–150) and describe real lighting and lenses rather than art styles.
  • For your real product: add your photo as an image prompt or object reference (--oref with --ow weight) so the result stays closer to it.
  • Fidelity: Midjourney redraws the product, so label text, logos and small details often change. Treat results as ads and mood images, not listing photos.
  • Listings: for main and gallery photos, keep the real product pixels and replace only the background.

How do you write Midjourney product photography prompts?

Write the prompt in the order a photographer would set up the shot: what the product is, what it sits on, what is behind it, where the light comes from, and how the camera sees it. Midjourney reads the start of a prompt most heavily, so put the product first and keep the whole prompt to one or two sentences.

PartWhat to writeExample
ProductType, material, color, finishmatte black ceramic coffee mug
SurfaceWhat it stands onon a light oak table
BackgroundPlain color or blurred settingblurred sunny kitchen behind
LightSource, direction, softnesssoft morning window light from the left
CameraAngle, lens, depth of fieldeye-level, 85mm lens, shallow depth of field
MoodOne or two wordscalm, minimal
ParametersShape and style strength--ar 4:5 --s 100

Photography words work better than adjectives like "stunning" or "beautiful". Terms such as "softbox", "rim light", "seamless backdrop", "macro", "top-down flat lay" and "shallow depth of field" give the model something concrete to copy. For a deeper look at lighting words and common mistakes that apply to every tool, see our AI product photography prompts guide.

Which Midjourney parameters matter for product photos?

Four parameters do most of the work: aspect ratio, stylize, the reference flags and --no. Midjourney's default model moved to the V8 family in mid-2026 (V8.2 at the time of writing), and some flags behave differently between versions, so check the parameter list in Midjourney's own docs if one stops working.

ParameterWhat it doesProduct photo setting
--arAspect ratio, whole numbers only1:1 listings, 4:5 feeds, 9:16 stories, 16:9 banners
--stylize / --sHow much Midjourney's own look is applied (0–1000, default 100)50–150 for realistic product shots
--rawLess default styling, more literal (where the version supports it)Useful for plain studio shots
--oref and --owObject/omni reference from an image, with weight (default 100)Your product photo; try --ow 100–300
--iwHow strongly an image prompt influences the resultRaise it to stay closer to your photo
--noThings to leave out--no text, logo, hands, extra products

Midjourney's default version and parameter names were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.

How do you use your own product photo in Midjourney?

Upload your product photo and use it as a reference, either as an image prompt at the start of the prompt or with the object/omni reference flag (--oref) and a weight (--ow). The reference pulls shape, color and materials toward your item, but it does not copy the product pixel for pixel.

  1. Shoot a clean reference: daylight, plain background, product filling the frame, label facing the camera. Removing the background first often helps.
  2. Add it to the prompt in the web app (drag it into the prompt bar and choose how to use it) or paste the image URL.
  3. Describe only the scene, not the product's design; let the reference carry that.
  4. Adjust the weight. Raise --ow or --iw if the product drifts; lower it if the scene looks stiff. Very high weights can produce odd results.
  5. Compare side by side with your real photo: label text, logo, cap, color, proportions.

Why does Midjourney change my product's label and shape?

Because every Midjourney image is generated from scratch. Even with a reference, the model draws a new product that resembles yours, so small text turns into gibberish, logos shift, bottles get a slightly different neck and a 3-pack can become a 4-pack. Raising the reference weight and stating the count helps, but doesn't fix label text.

The reliable fix is to turn the process around: use Midjourney for the empty scene ("a white marble counter with soft window light, empty space in the center, no product"), then place a cut-out of your real product into it in an editor. Match the light direction and add a contact shadow so it sits naturally.

Can you use Midjourney images for product listings and ads?

Use them freely for ad concepts, mood boards, social posts and banners, and carefully for listings. Marketplaces expect photos to show the product the buyer will receive, so a redrawn product with a slightly different label can lead to returns or listing problems.

On rights: Midjourney's terms let paid subscribers use their images commercially, with an extra rule that companies above about $1 million in yearly revenue need a higher plan. Purely AI-generated images may also not be protected by copyright in the US. Check Midjourney's current terms, and see our guide on whether you can use AI images commercially (general information, not legal advice). For close-ups where the product must stay consistent, Google's models often do better; see our Nano Banana product photography prompts.

Making listing-ready versions with AiArter

AiArter doesn't run Midjourney. It takes the opposite approach for listing photos: your real product stays as photographed and only the background changes.

  • White main image (4 credits): pure white, product centered at about 85% of a 2000×2000 frame, optional soft shadow.
  • Lifestyle scenes (8 credits): 10 presets such as Marble counter, Wooden table and Dark luxury, or describe your own scene.
  • Channel sizes: the AI image extender fills extra space for 4:5, 9:16 or 1200×628 versions instead of cropping the product.
  • Bulk: up to 50 photos per batch in the product photo tool, failed photos not charged.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Midjourney prompt for product photography?

Describe the product first, then the surface, background, light and camera, and finish with parameters, for example: "matte black mug on a light oak table, soft window light from the left, 85mm, shallow depth of field --ar 4:5 --s 100". Keep stylize low for realism.

How do I keep my product the same in Midjourney?

Add your product photo as an image reference or object reference (--oref) and raise its weight. Even then, Midjourney redraws the product, so labels and logos can change. For exact accuracy, composite a cut-out of your real product into the scene.

What --stylize value should I use for product photos?

Roughly 50 to 150 for realistic commercial shots. Higher values add Midjourney's own artistic look, which can suit ad concepts but drifts away from a true product photo.

Can I use Midjourney images on Amazon or Etsy listings?

Marketplaces expect images to accurately show what the buyer receives, so a redrawn product is risky for main and gallery photos. Etsy also asks sellers to disclose AI use. Use Midjourney for ads and mood images, and real product photos for listings.

What aspect ratio should I use for product images in Midjourney?

Use --ar 1:1 for listings and carousels, 4:5 for Instagram and Facebook feeds, 9:16 for Stories, Reels and TikTok, and 16:9 for website banners.
