The main remove.bg alternatives for bulk background removal are Photoroom (1,000 exports from $7.50/month billed yearly), AiArter (about 4.8 cents per photo on its $12 plan, 50 photos per batch), Claid.ai (API), Canva and Adobe Express. remove.bg charges 1 credit per full-resolution image ($9/month buys 40), but its standalone website closes on 1 December 2026 as background removal moves to Canva.
A notice on remove.bg’s own pricing page says the standalone website will no longer be available from 1 December 2026 at 9:00am CET, and that its background removal is moving to Canva. If you use the API, the desktop app or have unused credits, check remove.bg’s FAQ for what happens to them, and pick a replacement before the cut-off.
Disclosure: AiArter is our product. We've included it because it's a real option for bulk product cutouts, but we've also shown where others are cheaper or better suited. remove.bg is a good tool; most people look for an alternative because of cost at volume, because they need white or colored backgrounds rather than transparency, or because they want more than a cutout. All prices were taken from vendors' own pages in October 2026, so check current pricing before you buy.
- remove.bg pricing: 1 credit = 1 full-resolution image (up to 50 MP). Plans from $9/month for 40 credits; pay-as-you-go from $3 for 3 credits. Website previews are free.
- At 50 images a month, the cheapest options are flat plans: Photoroom, AiArter Starter or a design tool you already pay for.
- At 500 images, remove.bg's 500-credit plan is $89/month (17.8 cents each); Photoroom and AiArter cost a few cents per image.
- Batch limits matter: AiArter takes 50 photos per batch; remove.bg's bulk tool is its desktop app; Canva and Adobe Express are built around single designs.
- Output: check whether you get transparent, white and colored backgrounds, and whether shadows and centering are included.
How does remove.bg pricing work?
remove.bg uses credits: one credit removes the background from one image at full resolution. Preview-size results, up to 0.25 megapixels (around 625×400), are free on the website and cost a quarter credit in the apps and API. Full-resolution output goes up to 50 megapixels, and uploads can be up to 22 MB.
| remove.bg option | Price | Credits | Cost per image |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal subscription | $9/mo | 40/mo | 22.5 cents |
| Professional subscription | $39/mo | 200/mo | 19.5 cents |
| Professional subscription | $89/mo | 500/mo | 17.8 cents |
| Professional subscription | $189/mo | 1,200/mo | 15.75 cents |
| Pay-as-you-go | $3 | 3 | $1.00 |
| Pay-as-you-go | $49 | 75 | about 65 cents |
| Pay-as-you-go | $199 | 500 | about 40 cents |
Yearly billing takes about 10% off subscriptions (for example, $35.10/month instead of $39). Subscription credits don't carry over to the next month; pay-as-you-go credits are the flexible option. remove.bg runs on the web, a desktop app for Windows, Mac and Linux, a Photoshop plugin, an Android app and an API.
remove.bg's plans, credit prices and resolution limits were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.
What are the best remove.bg alternatives?
The right alternative depends on volume and what you do with the cutout next.
| Tool | Pricing model | Batch | Output options | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| remove.bg | Credits, from $9/mo for 40 | Desktop app for bulk; API | Transparent, color or image background | Cutouts and API |
| Photoroom | Exports, from $7.50/mo yearly for 1,000 | Batch editing; exports count | Transparent, white, color, AI backgrounds | Phone and web editing at volume |
| AiArter (ours) | Credits, 4 per photo; $12/mo for 1,000 | 50 photos per batch, one ZIP | Pure white, transparent PNG, brand colors and gradients | Marketplace-ready white and color sets |
| Claid.ai | Credits; check current pricing | API and integrations | Cutouts, backgrounds, enhancement | Automated catalogs |
| Canva | Canva Pro subscription | Single designs | Transparent, then design on top | Turning cutouts into graphics |
| Adobe Express | $9.99/mo Premium | Single designs | Transparent, then design on top | Adobe users making quick graphics |
Photoroom
Photoroom's Pro plan is listed at $7.50/month billed yearly with 1,000 exports a month, and Max at $20.99/month billed yearly with 3,000. Background removal is a core tool under fair-use limits; each saved image, including from Batch, counts as one export. It has iPhone, iPad and Android apps and a Shopify app on Max and above. If you shoot on a phone and process hundreds of images a month, it's hard to beat on price.
AiArter (our product)
AiArter charges 4 credits per photo for a white background, a transparent PNG or a brand-color background. The white output is pure RGB 255,255,255 with the product centered at about 85% of a 2000×2000 frame and an optional soft shadow, so it's ready for marketplace main images without a second editing step. The bulk background remover takes up to 50 photos per batch, gives you one ZIP, and doesn't charge for photos that fail.
The arithmetic: Starter is $12 for 1,000 credits, which is 1.2 cents per credit. At 4 credits a photo, that's 4.8 cents per image, or 250 photos a month. Pro is $29 for 3,000 credits (750 photos, about 3.9 cents each). Where it falls short: it's used in the browser, so if you need a developer API or a native phone app, remove.bg, Claid.ai or Photoroom fit better.
Claid.ai
Claid.ai is aimed at automated pipelines. It sells monthly credit plans (check current pricing), with higher-resolution outputs costing more credits per image. Pick it if you want images processed by API as they're uploaded to your store.
Canva and Adobe Express
Both include a background remover in their paid plans (Canva Pro; Adobe Express Premium at $9.99/month) and both have free plans for basic design. They're built around editing one design at a time, so they're not bulk tools, but if you already pay for one and only cut out a few images a week, you may not need anything else.
What does bulk background removal cost at 50 and 500 images?
At 50 images a month, a low flat plan wins; at 500, per-image costs separate the tools clearly. These figures use monthly billing unless noted and assume one output per image.
| Tool and plan | 50 images/month | Per image | 500 images/month | Per image |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| remove.bg | $18 (Personal $9 + 10 pay-as-you-go credits $9) | 36 cents | $89 (500-credit plan) | 17.8 cents |
| Photoroom Pro (billed yearly) | $7.50 | 15 cents | $7.50 | 1.5 cents |
| AiArter | $12 (Starter) | 24 cents | $29 (Pro, 3,000 credits) | 5.8 cents |
| Claid.ai | Check current pricing | Depends on credits per operation | Check plan | Check plan |
Two notes. First, the per-image figure falls if you use your whole allowance: AiArter Starter covers 250 photos (4.8 cents each), and remove.bg Personal 40 (22.5 cents). Second, Photoroom's yearly price is paid up front, and its monthly price is higher, so compare on the billing you'll actually use.
If every product needs a transparent PNG for your designer and a white version for Amazon, that's two outputs per photo on most tools. On AiArter, the white output is already centered and padded, so one output can cover both the marketplace and your store.
Run 50 product photos through bulk white-background removal and download one ZIP. Failed photos aren't charged.
Try bulk removal7 days free · 50 credits · No credit cardWhich output should you choose: transparent, white or color?
Choose by destination: white for marketplace main images, transparent for design work, and a color for your own store and ads.
- Pure white (255,255,255): Amazon, Walmart and Google Shopping main images. A cutout on transparency still needs placing on white, centering and padding; see how to make a product photo background white, or use our Amazon white background tool, which does the cutout, white 2000×2000 frame and about 85% fill in one step.
- Transparent PNG: templates, banners and anything a designer will layer. See how to make a product image transparent.
- Brand color or gradient: Shopify collections, social posts and ads, where a consistent tint makes a grid look planned.
How to test a remove.bg alternative before switching
- Pick 10 photos that include your hardest cases: glass, hair or fur, lace, thin straps and white products on white.
- Run the same set through each trial at full resolution.
- Check edges at 100% zoom, especially halos and missing thin parts.
- Check the product itself: labels, text and colors should be unchanged.
- Time the whole job, including any centering, padding or shadow work you'd do afterwards.
- Work out cost per finished image at your real monthly volume.
