Canva vs Photoroom: choose Photoroom for product photos (cutouts, AI backgrounds, AI fashion models and batch edits, from $7.50/month billed yearly) and Canva for marketing graphics (templates, Magic Resize, brand kits and a social content planner). Many sellers use both: Photoroom for the listing image, Canva for the ad around it.
Full disclosure: AiArter is our product. Neither Canva nor Photoroom is ours, so we compare the two fairly first and mention AiArter once as a third option. Every price and feature below comes from Canva's and Photoroom's own pricing, help and product pages, checked in October 2026. Canva's prices vary by region, and all prices change, so check current pricing before you buy.

Is Canva or Photoroom better for product photos?
Photoroom. It's built for this job. Its paid plans include background removal with no AI-credit cost (under fair-use limits), AI Backgrounds that place your product in a generated scene, AI Fashion Models for clothing, and batch processing to apply the same edit to many photos. Pro includes 1,000 exports and 8,000 AI credits a month.
Canva can remove a background and put the product on a template, which is fine for a handful of images. It isn't designed to process a catalog: there's no product-specific batch workflow on the scale Photoroom offers. Our guide on how to remove a background in Canva walks through its steps if you already pay for Pro.
Is Canva or Photoroom better for social posts and ads?
Canva. Pro lists 3.6M+ templates, 141M+ premium photos, videos, graphics and audio, Magic Resize to turn one design into every channel size, and 5 brand kits so fonts and colors stay consistent. Its Content Planner lets Pro, Business and Education users schedule posts, and its help center lists Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Slack and Tumblr (it notes the list changes).
Photoroom has templates and a brand kit too, but they're built around product images rather than sale banners, carousels, presentations or video edits. If most of your week is making marketing content, Canva covers more of it.
Canva vs Photoroom pricing
Photoroom publishes US prices on its pricing page:
- Pro: $12.99/month, or $89.99/year ($7.50/month). 1,000 exports and 8,000 AI credits a month.
- Max: $34.99/month, or $250/year ($20.99/month). 3,000 exports, 25,000 AI credits, Shopify integration and a video generator.
- Ultra: $99/month, or $990/year ($82.50/month). 10,000 exports and 75,000 AI credits.
Canva has a free plan, Pro, Business and Enterprise tiers, and in some regions a cheaper Pro Lite tier. Canva Pro's price depends on your country and billing period, so check current pricing on Canva's site. Pro includes 100GB of cloud storage and unlimited use of the background remover.
What each plan gets you for product images
| Plan | Price | Product image allowance | Cost per image at full use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photoroom Pro, yearly | $89.99/yr | 1,000 exports a month | about 0.75 cents |
| Photoroom Pro, monthly | $12.99/mo | 1,000 exports a month | about 1.3 cents |
| Photoroom Max, yearly | $250/yr | 3,000 exports a month | about 0.69 cents |
| Canva Pro | Check current pricing | Unlimited background remover use | Depends on your price and volume |
If you already pay for Canva Pro for design work, its background remover costs nothing extra, which can be enough for a small shop. If product photos are the main job, Photoroom's per-export cost is low and you get the AI scene tools as well.
Can you use Canva and Photoroom together?
Yes, and many sellers do. A common split:
- Cut out and clean the product photo in Photoroom, and export a white or transparent version.
- Use that cutout in a Canva template for a sale banner, carousel or ad.
- Magic Resize the Canva design into each channel size and schedule it from the Content Planner.
The downside is paying for two subscriptions. Work out whether each one earns its place at your volume.
Canva vs Photoroom: which should you choose?
- Choose Photoroom if listing photos are the main job: cutouts, AI backgrounds, AI fashion models, batch edits and Shopify integration.
- Choose Canva if marketing content is the main job: templates, multi-channel resizing, brand kits, video and scheduling.
- Choose both if you run ads every week and also list new products often.
A third option for photos plus simple designs
AiArter (our product) sits between the two for some sellers. It keeps your real product as shot and generates only the background: a white main image costs 4 credits and a lifestyle scene 8 credits. It also has design templates for sale banners and social posts, brand kits and short UGC-style video ads, from $12/month. It has a far smaller template library than Canva, no mobile app and no AI fashion models, and its social scheduler is on Pro and Studio only.
Turn one product photo into a white main image and a lifestyle scene, then drop it into a template for your next post.
Try AiArter photos7 days free · 50 credits · No credit cardWhichever tool you use, a marketplace main image still has to meet its rules, such as a pure white background on Amazon. A design-tool export with a soft gray or off-white fill can be rejected, so check the background color before you upload.
How to choose between Canva and Photoroom
- Split your week: how many hours go to product photos and how many to marketing graphics?
- Count product images a month, including every channel size.
- Check what you already pay for. If you have Canva Pro, test its background remover before adding another tool.
- Run the same three hard photos (shiny, fine edges, clear) through both and compare edges at 100% zoom.
- Check commercial use and export limits on any free or trial plan.
- Price on your billing choice: Photoroom's yearly plan is much cheaper than monthly.

Frequently asked questions
Is Photoroom better than Canva for product photos?
Yes, for most sellers. Photoroom is built for product photos, with background removal, AI backgrounds, AI fashion models and batch editing on its paid plans. Canva can remove backgrounds on paid plans, but it is a design suite rather than a catalog photo editor.
Can Canva remove backgrounds for free?
No. Canva's help center says background removal is available on paid plans such as Pro. The free plan covers basic design, templates and editing without the background remover.
How much does Photoroom cost compared with Canva Pro?
Photoroom Pro is listed at $12.99/month or $89.99/year ($7.50/month) for 1,000 exports a month. Canva Pro's price varies by country and billing period, so check Canva's pricing page for your region.
Can Photoroom make social media posts like Canva?
Photoroom has templates and a brand kit for product images, but Canva has a much larger template library, Magic Resize for every channel size and a Content Planner for scheduling. For regular marketing content, Canva covers more.
Does Canva have AI product photography like Photoroom?
Canva has general AI image tools, but Photoroom's AI Backgrounds and AI Fashion Models are built specifically for product photos. If AI scenes for listings are the main need, Photoroom is the closer fit.
Should I use Canva and Photoroom together?
It can work well: edit product photos in Photoroom, then design ads and posts in Canva. The trade-off is paying for two subscriptions, so check whether your volume justifies both.
