An AI product photo generator turns a phone photo of your product into finished listing or ad images in under a minute. There are three kinds: text-to-image (invents everything), image-to-image (redraws your product in a new scene) and cut-out compositing (keeps your real product, replaces only the background). Use compositing for listings, the others for ads.
Searches for "AI product photo generator" return dozens of tools that look the same on their homepages but work in very different ways underneath. The difference decides whether your label stays readable, whether the colors match what the buyer receives, and whether the image passes a marketplace's main-image rules. This guide explains the three types, what to check before you pay, and a short list of options.
- Text-to-image: creates a product from a description. Good for concepts and backgrounds, not for showing your actual product.
- Image-to-image: uses your photo as a reference and generates a new image. Wide creative range, but labels and shapes can drift.
- Cut-out and composite: removes your photo's background and generates a new one around the untouched product. The safest choice for listings.
- Check before paying: product accuracy, batch uploads, channel sizes, commercial rights and whether free output carries a watermark.
- Most sellers use two types: compositing for listings, a generative model for ads and social.
What is an AI product photo generator?
It's software that produces product images with an AI model instead of a camera, lighting kit and set. You give it a photo, a prompt, or both, and it returns a white-background shot, a styled scene or an ad-ready image. Most run in a browser or phone app and charge per image or by monthly credits.
For the bigger picture, including how AI fits alongside your own photos, see our guide to AI product photography.
What are the three types of AI product photo generators?
They differ in one thing: how much of the final image comes from your real photo.
| Type | How it works | Pros | Cons | Use for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Text-to-image | Generates the whole image from a written prompt | No photo needed; unlimited creative range | The product isn't yours; can't match real details | Mood boards, backgrounds, concept ads |
| Image-to-image | Uses your photo as a reference and generates a new image | New angles, hands, props and lighting; follows your product closely | Labels, logos, colors and shape can change | Ad concepts, social posts, creative tests |
| Cut-out and composite | Removes your background, generates a new one, keeps the product pixels | Product exact; fast; consistent across a catalog; batch-friendly | Product keeps its original angle and lighting | Listing photos, white main images, catalogs |
Text-to-image
You type "a matte black water bottle on a mossy rock at sunrise" and get a picture of a bottle that isn't yours. Useful for planning a shoot, making backgrounds or testing ad ideas before you have stock. Not suitable for showing buyers what they'll receive.
Image-to-image
You upload your product and describe a scene, as in ChatGPT, Gemini's Nano Banana models and many dedicated apps. Results can look like a real shoot, and the model can change the camera angle or add a hand. Because the whole image is regenerated, small text and exact colors may drift. Our guides to ChatGPT product photos and Nano Banana prompts cover this approach.
Cut-out and composite
The tool removes your photo's background, then generates a surface, backdrop and shadow around the product. Your product is literally your photo, so the label reads exactly as printed. The limit is that the product's angle and lighting come from your original shot, so a good source photo matters.
Which type should you use for listings vs ads?
| Image | Best type | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon, Walmart, Google Shopping main image | Cut-out on pure white | Must show the real product on white |
| Etsy, Shopify, eBay main photo | Cut-out (white or scene) | Buyers judge the exact item |
| Secondary lifestyle photos | Cut-out with a generated scene | Accurate product, styled context |
| Instagram and Pinterest posts | Either; check the product | Mood matters, accuracy still counts |
| Ad concepts and creative tests | Image-to-image | New angles, hands, bold scenes |
| Backgrounds, props, mood boards | Text-to-image | No product needed |
Put the generated image next to your original photo at the same size. Read every word on the label, compare the logo, check the color on the same screen, and count every part. If anything differs, it doesn't belong on a product page, even if it looks better.
What should you look for in an AI product photo generator?
Product accuracy first; everything else is convenience.
- Keeps the product true. Does it composite your real product or regenerate it? Test with a product that has small text on the label.
- Marketplace white backgrounds. True RGB 255,255,255, product filling most of the frame, at least 1600–2000 px. Our free Amazon image checker tests all three on any result.
- Batch processing. If you list more than a handful of products, uploading one at a time adds up fast.
- Channel sizes. Square, 4:5, 9:16, 2:3 and ad sizes without cropping the product.
- Commercial rights. Read whether you can use outputs in listings and ads, and on which plan.
- Watermarks on free tiers. Many free plans add a mark; marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay don't allow watermarks.
- Charging for failures. Some tools charge for every generation, good or bad.
- Resolution. Check the output size, not just how it looks on the preview.
How to test a generator before you commit
- Pick three products: one with a detailed label, one shiny or transparent, one plain.
- Shoot each in daylight on a plain background.
- Run each through the free tier or trial: a white background, a lifestyle scene, and a 9:16 size.
- Run the accuracy test on every result.
- Check output resolution, watermarks and download format.
- Work out the cost per finished image at your monthly volume.
Test a cut-out-and-composite generator on your own products: white backgrounds, scenes and channel sizes from one upload.

How AiArter generates product photos
AiArter is our tool, so weigh this section accordingly. It's built mainly on compositing, with generative tools alongside for creative work.
- White main image (4 credits): pure white RGB 255,255,255, product centered at about 85% of a 2000×2000 frame, optional soft shadow.
- Transparent PNG or brand-color background (4 credits each), with presets and gradients, or your brand-kit colors.
- Lifestyle scenes (8 credits): your product is cut out and kept as-is; only the background is generated, from 10 presets or your own description, in the AI background generator.
- Channel sizes (8 credits): Shopify, Etsy, Instagram, Story, Pinterest, ad and banner sizes, with AI filling the extra space.
- Generative tools (17 credits each): the AI image generator (text-to-image) and the image-to-image generator, both running Google's Nano Banana 2. The image-to-image result may not match your product pixel for pixel.
- Bulk: up to 50 photos per batch in the bulk background remover and photo tools, one ZIP download; failed results aren't charged.
- Plans: a 7-day free trial with 50 credits and no card; paid plans from $12/mo for 1,000 credits (pricing). Trial images carry a small "Made with aiarter" mark and are for personal use and testing; paid plans export clean files with commercial use.
What it doesn't do: dedicated ghost-mannequin removal, 360° spins, AI fashion models or virtual try-on, or posting to marketplaces. For prompt ideas that work with any of these tools, see AI product photography prompts.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI product photo generator?
It depends on the job. For listing photos, a tool that cuts out your real product and generates only the background keeps the product accurate. For ad concepts and creative scenes, an image-to-image model such as ChatGPT or Gemini gives more freedom.
Can AI generate product photos from my own photo?
Yes. Image-to-image tools redraw your product in a new scene, and compositing tools cut it out and place it on a new background. Compositing keeps the product exactly as photographed; image-to-image can change small details.
Are AI product photos allowed on Amazon?
Amazon requires the main image to accurately show the real product on a pure white background. A cut-out of your own photo on white meets that; a regenerated product may not. Secondary images can be AI-styled if they represent the product accurately.
Is there a free AI product photo generator?
Many tools have free plans or trials, but free output often carries a watermark, lower resolution or limited commercial rights. Check those three things before using free images on a listing.
Can I use AI-generated product photos commercially?
Usually on paid plans, but terms vary by tool. Read the tool's terms for commercial use, and make sure the image represents your product accurately to avoid returns and complaints.
What's the difference between AI product photos and background removal?
Background removal only cuts the product out, leaving a transparent or white background. An AI product photo generator goes further, creating new scenes, surfaces, shadows or whole images.
Upload your phone photos and get white main images, lifestyle scenes and every channel size, up to 50 at a time, with the product left exactly as you shot it.
