Gift Guide Images (2026): How to Make a Holiday Gift Guide Graphic That Sells

To make gift guide images, cut out 4 to 9 products as transparent PNGs, place them on one shared background (white or a single brand color), group them by price or recipient, and add a short headline like "Gifts under $50". Export a 1000×1500 pin, a 1080×1350 Instagram post and a 600-pixel-wide email image from the same layout.

A gift guide is the easiest holiday image to sell from, because it answers the shopper's real question: what should I buy for my sister, my dad, or the coworker I barely know? This guide covers how to plan the groups, which backgrounds and layouts work, the sizes for Pinterest, Instagram and email, and how to get clean product cut-outs fast, with free and paid options for each step.

The short version
  • Group by one idea per image: a price cap (under $25, $50, $100) or a recipient (for her, for him, for the host, stocking stuffers).
  • Use one background for the whole guide. White or a single brand color makes different product photos look like one set.
  • Cut products out first. Transparent PNGs are what let mismatched photos sit together on one canvas.
  • 4 to 9 products per image. More than that and nothing reads on a phone.
  • Build one master layout, export three sizes: 1000×1500 for Pinterest, 1080×1350 for Instagram, 1200 px wide (shown at 600) for email.

What is a gift guide image?

A gift guide image is a single graphic that shows several products chosen for one type of buyer or budget, with a headline and, usually, a price under each item. It works as a social post, a Pinterest pin, an email section or a landing-page banner, and it links to a page or collection where all the items can be bought.

The image gets the click; the gift guide page (a Shopify collection, an Etsy section or a blog post) does the selling, so use the same groupings on both.

How should you group products in a gift guide?

Group by price or by recipient, and give each image a single idea. Shoppers scan for their budget or for the person they're buying for, so a headline that matches one of those wins the click.

GroupingExample headlinesBest for
Price capGifts under $25 / under $50 / under $100Most shops; easiest for shoppers to act on
RecipientFor her, For him, For mom, For the host, For teachersShops with a broad range
PersonalityFor the coffee lover, the homebody, the gym fanLifestyle and gift shops
OccasionStocking stuffers, Secret Santa, Hostess giftsSmall, cheaper items
BundlesThe self-care set, The desk upgradeShops that sell sets or kits
Last minuteShips by Dec 18, Digital gifts, Gift cardsMid to late December

Price guides tend to be the most useful, because a shopper knows their budget before they know the gift. If you only make three images, make "under $25", "under $50" and one recipient guide built around your best seller. Put prices on the image only if you're sure they won't change during a sale; otherwise put them on the page.

What background should a gift guide graphic use?

One background for every product in the guide: pure white, or one soft brand color. Consistency is the whole trick. Five products shot on five different tables look like a jumble; the same five on one warm beige look like a curated edit.

  • White is the safest and works for email, where colored blocks can look heavy.
  • One brand color (beige, blush, sage, deep green, burgundy) stands out more on Pinterest and Instagram. Pull the exact HEX code from your logo or packaging with our free color palette generator.
  • A subtle festive scene (blurred lights, a wooden table with pine) can work for a hero image with one to three products, but gets busy behind a grid.
  • Avoid busy patterns such as plaid or glitter behind small cut-outs.

Our guide to the best background colors for product photos covers which colors flatter which products.

How do you get clean product cut-outs for a gift guide?

Remove the background from each product photo and save it as a transparent PNG. You can do this free on your phone or in Canva, or in bulk with an AI tool.

  1. iPhone (free): open the photo, press and hold the product, then tap Copy or Share. Paste it into your design app. Our iPhone background removal guide has the details.
  2. Canva: the Background Remover works on a paid plan; select the image and choose Edit, then BG Remover.
  3. AI tool, one at a time: upload to a background remover and download a transparent PNG (4 credits on AiArter).
  4. AI tool, in bulk: if the guide has 20 or more products, batch them so you aren't cutting out one by one.

Check the edges at full size. Hair, fur, glass and fine chains are where cut-outs fail; a fuzzy edge is fine at thumbnail size but obvious in a 1080-pixel post. Leave a little natural shadow, or add a soft one, so products don't look like they're floating.

Cut out every product in your gift guide as a transparent PNG, or put them all on the same white or brand-color background with a soft shadow.

What layouts work for gift guide collages?

A grid with even spacing works best for 4 to 9 products; a hero layout works for 2 to 4. Start from a template so the spacing and text sizes are already right.

LayoutProductsHow it looksUse for
2×2 grid4Four equal cells, headline on topInstagram, email
3×3 grid9Tight grid, small prices under eachPinterest, blog header
2×3 tall grid6Two columns, three rowsPinterest pins (2:3)
Hero plus row1 big + 3 smallBest seller large, others belowLanding pages, email
Scattered flat lay5–7Overlapping cut-outs at slight anglesInstagram, lifestyle brands
Carousel1 per slideCover slide, then one product per slideInstagram, LinkedIn

Rules that make any layout read on a phone:

  • Make products roughly the same visual size, even if a candle is really smaller than a blanket.
  • Keep at least 40 px between cut-outs and from the edges.
  • Headline in large, short words: "Under $50" beats "Thoughtful gifts for every budget".
  • Put prices or numbers directly under each product, in one font and size.
  • Add your shop name or logo small at the bottom, not the top.

Canva, Adobe Express and AiArter's design templates all have social and banner templates you can drop cut-outs into. If you keep a brand kit, your colors and fonts load in one click, which keeps a whole series of guides consistent. For a quick photo grid without a headline, our free product collage maker lays out 2×2, 3×3 or 1 big + 3 grids at Instagram sizes in your browser.

What size should gift guide images be?

Design one master layout and export it in three sizes: 1000×1500 for Pinterest, 1080×1350 for Instagram and Facebook feed, and an email image 1200 px wide that displays at 600.

WhereSize (px)RatioNotes

Pinterest, Instagram and email image sizes were checked in October 2026. Marketplaces change their rules, so confirm the current requirements in your seller dashboard before you upload a large batch.

Rebuilding the layout for each ratio takes time. If you start from a single product scene rather than a grid, an AI image extender can stretch it to each size by filling in more background instead of cropping (8 credits per size on AiArter). For grids, resizing the template in your design app is usually cleaner. More on Pinterest in our Pinterest product pin size guide.

How do you make a gift guide page that converts?

Make a collection or post for each guide image, with the same headline, the same products in the same order, and a clear price and buy button for each.

  1. Create one collection or section per guide ("Gifts under $50").
  2. Use the same product images as the graphic, so the page feels like a continuation of the click.
  3. Write one line per product on who it's for ("for the friend who's always cold").
  4. Show the shipping cutoff date near the top in December.
  5. Link every guide image, pin and email block to its matching page, not your homepage.
Marketplace main images stay plain

A gift guide graphic with text and multiple products belongs on social, email, ads and your own site. Amazon, Walmart and Google Shopping main images still need the single product on white. See our holiday listing photo checklist for what can change on listings.

When should you post holiday gift guides?

Have the first guides live by early November, and keep posting through mid-December. Pinterest users plan earlier than Instagram users, so pins can go up in late October.

When (2026)What to publish
Late OctoberPinterest gift guide pins; build the collection pages
Early NovemberPrice and recipient guides on Instagram, Facebook and email

Making gift guide images with AiArter

AiArter handles the product-image part of a gift guide; you assemble the grid in a template.

  • Transparent PNG cut-outs (4 credits each) for every product.
  • Matching backgrounds (4 credits each): White, Warm beige, Blush, Sage, Butter, Charcoal and more, or your brand-kit colors, all with a soft shadow.
  • Holiday scenes (8 credits) for a hero product, using the Holiday preset on the AI background generator. Your product is cut out of your photo and kept as-is; only the background is new.
  • Bulk: up to 50 photos per batch, one ZIP download, failed photos not charged.
  • Templates for social posts and banners to lay out the grid.

Start from the product photos tool if you want every product on the same background in one batch.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a gift guide graphic?

Cut out each product as a transparent PNG, place 4 to 9 of them on one plain background in a grid template, and add a short headline such as "Gifts under $50". Export it at 1000×1500 for Pinterest and 1080×1350 for Instagram.

What size should a gift guide be for Pinterest?

Use 1000×1500 pixels, a 2:3 ratio. Taller pins can be cut off in the feed. A 2×3 grid of six products fits this shape well.

How many products should be in a gift guide image?

Four to nine. Fewer than four looks thin; more than nine makes each product too small to recognize on a phone. Use a carousel or several images if you have more.

What is the best background for a gift guide?

One background for every product: white, or a single soft brand color such as beige, sage or blush. Matching backgrounds make photos from different shoots look like one set.

Can I make a gift guide in Canva?

Yes. Canva has collage and social templates, and its Background Remover (on paid plans) cuts out products. You can also cut out products elsewhere and upload the PNGs to a free Canva account.

When should I post a holiday gift guide?

Have guides live by early November and keep posting into mid-December. Pinterest gift guide pins can go up in late October, since Pinterest users plan earlier.
